Here is how i think advanced zoom should work. If optics in 400 years in the future, look that bad at 1000m. then we have a serious problem. I used an ACOG 4x at 600m in the military and the clarity never looks like that.

Advanced zoom should bring a nice clear picture closer. Optics are designed to magnify things at long distance. Not make a big nasty pixellated picture that is not any better not used.

They have already acknowledged that they want to improve the performance of the PIP zoom, but there are some technical limitations that they are currently working to overcome.

yeah i read up on it too. Just thought starting a poll where people can actually give input on it would help the devs.

Agreed with OP, that module is totally useless as it is right now, hope to see some improvement soon.

What he said. Snipers would probably want high def high zoom at a single press rather than going 2x-3x-4x, but may not really need the PIP function at all. After all, if they're close enough to the front line they can be hit from the front in a way they can't see in PIP, their position is horrible anyway, and if they're going to be hit from behind by a light Mech, they're going to see the damage indicator change (and hear the weapons!) anyway.

But it's kind of hard to snipe a small blur in a big blur...

I don't care if it's PIP or not, but the quality of the 4x zoom needs to be a lot better.

Forget PIP altogether just make it zoom in more than what we have now in full screen. Easy to do and it will give you a nice clear pic

PGI said that to create PIP is to basically create a 2nd instance of the game where you get a closed up view. In other words, it'd be asking your computer to render the graphics twice to get the same fidelity as without zoom, hence the low quality of the PIP. Otherwise, your FPS would drop to 5-10.

That's why half of the posters above you stated that if removal of the PIP feature is necessary, so be it.

Quality of the PIP is ok as it is now (doesn't bother me) thought it could be little faster to appear.

I have not yet purchased the Advanced Zoom module but I have observed it being used on multiple occasions as well as watching numerous videos showcasing it and I don't think it's bad at all.

It doesn't look the prettiest but it still looks invaluable for a sniper role. I would love one on my 3 PPC AWS-9M Awesome. Yes, I'm mad to run 3 PPC's in this game with the way they are but there are times when an x3 zoom is not quite enough to place a confident PPC salvo into that tiny blue object at ~900m but with an x4 zoom I could be a bit more confident.

Even as the ranges close to around 500-600m an extra level of zoom, despite the blurriness, could allow for an increase in accuracy to nail a mech in a side torso rather than an arm, leg or CT. Even if it improved my hit rate at such ranges by 5-10%, that could be a dead mech, depending on my loadout of choice.

I would be happy with the way it is but of course, any improvements are welcome. Probably a x4.5 zoom would be nicer though (x1.0 -> x1.5 -> x3.0 -> x4.5?)

IDK if proper zoom will drop my FPS at any value. When I use x4 snipe mode I target big slow or even standing mech and FPS don't matter most of the time.
