This is really chapping my behind!

When I use Endo-Steel Internal Structure or Ferro-Fibrous Armor, I need to find space for 14 structure slots for each upgrade. The are represented as "Dynamic Structure Slots" on the paper doll. As I equip the mech, these dynamic structure slots move around. Fine so far.

But, as I approach the weight capacity of the mech, some of the Dynamic Structure Slots are converted to "Structure Slots" and this is where I have a beef. These slots are preventing me from fully utilizing the space and weight capacity of my mechs. It's frustrating as hell.

Can someone please explain to me the purpose of non-dynamic structure slots?

Better still, can we please be given control over where we place the structure slots in our mechs when we use ES or FF?

I've had a play around and I think I understand it now. Each location has at most, a number of dynamic structure slots equal to the number of empty slots left on the mech. The rest become structure slots.

I was wrong, they're not preventing me from using up the available space and weight of the mech.

They don't lock because you're approaching the mech's maximum weight, they're locking because you're running out of critical slots.

i.e. they can only move around as long as there's more than 14 open slots on your mech. When you fill it up, they run out of places to move to and are thus locked into position.

When using ES or FF both take up 14 critical slots on your mech. Theses are the Dynamic slots. You lose 14 criticals per upgrade that can not be used by anything else. So dynamic just means that the critical that slot is using can be used by something else and that dynamic slot will move to a open critical. When you start to run out of critical's the dynamics start turning in to just Structure/armor and turn kinda golden, that means that they can't be moved as they do not have a open critical slot to move to.

Just to add to what Leetskeet said, you don't need explicit control over where the dynamic slots go, that is why they are called dynamic. Basically, you control where they go by controlling where all your other stuff goes (heatsinks, ammo, weapons, etc). They are 'displaced' just like when you put a rock in a bucket of water, the water is displaced from wherever you put the rock.

If you find your Dynamic slots turning orange and becoming fixed, then you need to look through your mech and count the number of Empty slots. Generally you will probably find yourself with only one or two actually empty slots by the time you start to notice the lack of Dynamic slots.

It ought to have in each location a number of Dynamic slots equal to the total number of Empty slots, and as the Empties get filled to the point that you have fewer available than there are Dynamic slots in a location, they will start to be converted (maintaining the number of moveable Dynamic slots at an equal number to the Empty slots available elsewhere).
