Hey all, its been 5 years since I built my current PC and I am thinking of trying to squeeze out a but more time before I build anew.

Right now I have a GTX 280, an Intel Q9550 OCed to 3.2Ghz linked and synched with 4Gb of RAM.

Would upgrading to a GTX 660Ti be overkill? Or would the rest of the comp be able to keep up with it?
The thought behind it is that the card would be good now, but when I eventually get a newer (pcie3.0 capable) mobo and CPU, I can carry it over.

Advice greatly appreciated!

Your Q9550 will be fine with a GTX 660 ti. Sure, you may not get all the performance the GTX 660 has to offer, but you won't be missing much. The closer you can get the Q9550 to 4ghz, the better.

I'd look at it as an incremental update to an eventual general overhaul. . . the c2q's are getting a little long in the tooth. . .
As far as direct line performance though, upgrading the gfx would definitely be a good place to start.

I'd go ATi over Nvidia, but there's probably no real technical superiority vs brands at this point. . it's all personal preference.
