You dont get it at all..

While you may be happy to spend tons of money on a 5 map 8vs8 deathmatch game, some people here remember what it was supposed to be about. Some people have seen and heard the promises over and over again, seen the performance get worse and worse with each new patch. Seen the introduction of blatantly obvious bugs that should never have gotten past even the most cursory test.

Those people ALSO care about the game. They ALSO want it to succeed. And the reason why they still post here (even if you dont like what they post) is because they still believe that the game can be turned into something more along the lines of what PGI promised in the beginning. If they wouldnt care, they wouldnt post.. pretty simple no?

Now, with that out of the way, you may start to see what it looks like to those people when PGI simply offers a discount on their ingame gold... one could argue that its pretty shady business to sell your still half broken product for any price.. but thats not for this discussion.

The point is: people dont scream "II WAAAANNT".. they scream "Y U NO FIX??"

You dont get it...

I have been here for a long time, been playing beta pre-open, and have seen what this game started off as and see it now. They have given you a game that has come a LONG WAY with leaps and bounds. They started the development on this game with little to no budget, no kickstarter (until founders) and need capitol to keep things going. You do not help when you throw yourself on the floor and scream for content they did not promise was coming. They said they had a surprise, who gives a dern if it is what you wanted or not. This did not take away from bug fixing or programing, hell, they came out with a fix with the surprise to the UAC5, though now the other half of the community is up in arms cause it went against them.

You are seeing the development process of a game that is normally contained in house until the box is released, F2P games are not run on that same schedule, open beta is technically live for these games, and this is one of the best open betas I have seen for a F2P game in a long time. They may not get the patches right, but be happy you are seeing patches on a fairly regular basis, most F2P titles that are not even close to AAA quality will only release patches on a monthly if not bi-monthly basis. Sure, give them feedback, but don't flip out cause they did not release the chrome daytons for your trolling light mech this time around. Give it time, they are on a time table that allows for content release and bug fixes, things work out, it may not be to your liking on how it does, but trust me, it works out better then you know, just give them time. They can not hire an uber testing staff because of the F2P model, hence why they are are still in the beta process. This way we can test it out, and in the end, with the right kind of commentary, we can feel just as accomplished as a community that this game becomes a gem as the devs will when all is said and done, but bashing them and flipping out is not the right kind of commentary to bring to the table.

If you care as you say you do, curtail your compatriots in your rabble and have them bring information to the table, not emotions. It will not only improve the look and feel of our community, but it will give the devs a better understanding of what we all want. I have no clue of where you work, or if you work, but if you are in the CS industry, then you know how it feels when a customer is down your throat when all you wanted to do is help them, it is the same for PGI. Toss them a bone every now and then, and you may get better results then bringing out the torches and pitchforks.

What everyone wants is pretty simple:

1) fix the netcode
2) fix the bugs and optimize the game
3) fix matchmatchmaking
4) balance the heat and weapons

Those are the four biggest problems with the game right now.

Those are the top four things they keep working on, and is an ongoing commitment.
But remember that the staff is working on several things at the same time, and they have to introduce new features and content to keep it alive and evolving. So far it's been a great progression, compared to how the game played this summer..

They will see my money when they improve its performance (I dont have a low end machine), add at least a couple of new maps as well as night/day versions (so we can use our optics) of the old maps, and add a couple of new gameplay modes.

I will gladly pay up then. Not before.

People also seem to forget that it's unlikely that the devs working on models and artsy stuff for the cockpit are the same ones working on netcode and optimization.

Now if they were smart...... they would have applied the 20% to all levels not just the 50 and 100.. this tells me things are not going well or they are getting greedy. Greedy is my guess..

I would speculate the opposite. Stores usually only discount items that are not selling. The lower end MC buys are propably selling fairly well.

During the dev hunt over 100k unique viewers tuned in at one point to the live stream. Marketing wise, if only 2% of the viewers logged on and purchased only the $7 dollar option, then that would be $14,000 in revenue in one day. Whether or not that was the case I do not know. But I have a feeling they're making a steady stream of income.

In fairness for every one of your points of contention... There is someone here who wishes the following:

1) Add more mechs
2) Add more maps
3) Optimize the GUI
4) Get going on the community warfare

etc..etc..etc.. ad nauseam

Long story short, with the laundry-list of "wants' and "needs"... until PGI is allowed to focus on urgent particulars, the game will suffer from dilution because there are just too many ancillary and peripheral items being asked for / demanded.

Rule of thumb: When you attempt to please everyone, no one is every fully placated.

Well, the porter and the cleaner seem to be working in the pr-department, the office boy seems to be responsible for sales strategies and the accountant for community management, so it might be possible, especially when looking at the current state of it, that the art department actually IS working on the netcode...
