Are player-ran Mercenary Units allowed to have different names than canon units, but using the same monikers?

Basically, I want to know if players formerly from the Gra[REDACTED]gion can create a new company called "Guitar, Drums, and Lyre" and then go around refering to themselves as GDL_Pilotnames. We know that attempting to use a canon Merc Unit name will be prohibited, but we'd like to know if using the same abbreviations for a new unit would be acceptable. This does not mean we're definately going to do that, we are considering new names of all types, but it'd be nice to have the tentative rules clarified a bit. If we're better off just holding-tight, then that'd be nice to know, too. If you have the time, then I thank you for your reply. If not, I understand (you guys have a lot of things going on at once right now ;-)

I cant imagine it being an issue, there are only so many 2/3/4 letter acronyms available. I would guess that there will be a lot of GDL's.

Heck the acronym doesnt even have to match your name.

you could be Bob's bashers with a tag of 'RIP'

The devs already said your merc name needs to be longer than jus three letters so calling themselves simply GDL would be unacceptable.
