So everyone was crying about lrm-damage. Then the Nov6th patch came and for the first time the crying was really justified. Unfortunately the hotfix not only set things back to normal but did other changes as well which are now cause to many speculations. A fact is that lrm's got nerfed pretty hard with the result that you don't see many lrm boats left on the battle field. Even if your mech sports 2 lrm-20 you need about 400 missiles to bring back another mech. I don't need that many shots with any other weapon. Of course, with other weapons you need to get closer but on the other hand you need a solid target logon with lrms which isn't always easy, especially if the range for the target logon is much shorter than the firing range of the lrms. Maybe nerfing the lrms this much was intended - if it was, please do tell us. If it wasn't though, please bring them back to something more like Nov6th. I really don't want just one kind of weaponry on the battlefield - may those be lrm-boats, streak, gauss or whatever cats, etc.

If you have no artemis dont bother firing LRMs under 400m.

Of course I have Artemis. LRM's still suck pretty much...
Right now Ultra AC5 seems to be the weapon of choice...

You're wrong. LRMs are back in business since nov20th patch. I do 500-1200 damage without artemis usually (4xLRM 15 boat). We have a TAG in team, so for sure this helps.

bap+sensor range module= 980ish lock range.
bap also seems to be having a minor unlisted impact on fire tracking with lrms, at least inside a few hundred meters.
haven't felt like taking the risk on trying artemis (yet again) and potentially getting burned six ways from sunday (again).
makes a boat+ backup pairing in a few dislocated positions that can also cover one another able to do a nightmarish job of spotting and suppressing from the rearward position, and less devastatingly dependent on random people grasping how to press the r key instead of spamming it in hopes of inflating spot assists bonuses. two mechs so equipped can cover half of most maps for target acquisition if placed properly.
good enough to merit equipping an ams at least, as without it, if you get caught you get caught.

BAP + Artemis + Tag + Fighting at 400M = Always hit, full damage.
You need to tag your own targets and be fast enough to get in and get out to lob LRM's. I'm running a Cataphract 2 LRM15's with BAP + Artemis + Tag and a 74 kph speed and its a destroyer. You can get in, launch a few volleys and get out quickly.

what most of the people posting seem to forget is, lrm is a SUPPORT WEAPON. you should not be finding your own targets generally. follow the team, pick a target someone else is chewing on, and then burn it down. they did lower the damage on lrm a small amount, but before i could burn down an atlas in a matter of seconds with 2x lrm 20.
1. watch the terrain where you are when you are firing
if you are too low your missiles might all be impacting hillsides or buildings.
2. watch the terrain where your enemy is at
if your enemy is too low, again more killing of hillsides and buildings.
3. pick targets that you can maintain lock on
if you lose lock your missiles go to the last place you had lock if they are already in the air, and if you launch them without lock they go to where your crosshair was pointed, even if you acquire lock again.
my avaerage match in my lrm boat with 2x lrm 20 is between 300-700 damage. firing lrm is more than point and click.

Then you need to be shown how to use them. Sent you an in-game friend request.
I use a CatA1 and get 3 to 4 kills average per map. Its pure LRM.

Sorry, but LRM's are fine. My CPLT-A1 with 6 LRM5+Artemis shot down any Mech (without cover) in about 15-20 sec. In a good match ... 500 - 800 damage isn't really problem.
