I've been running some Cataphract builds lately, as well as experimenting with PPCs, and I came to the conclusion that convergence is never doing what you want it to do when dealing with travel time weapons. It gets tricky when firing back-to-back from separate arms, or from arm to torso.
I understand why this is happening, and I thought that I'd love to be able to turn convergence off. Then I thought... what if it wasn't in the game?
Ok, just hear me out! There are pros and cons to this:
Pros:
- Lead firing no longer results in slightly unpredictable behavior
- Solves problems with boats being able to alpha strike on pinpoint locations...
- ...however, mechs that are meant to boat, such as the Swayback, will still be suited to doing so, since the lasers are grouped in the hunch
- A higher skill ceiling. This is incredibly important in an online game with a grind element, as well as prospective eSports elements.
Cons:
- Might be difficult for new players to get the hang of, but I feel it would be easier to understand than the wild deviations resulting from the current convergence system.
- Simple solution, less complication.
Another option would be to limit convergence to arms, I suppose. I'm under no impression that this would ever happen, but I thought it would be an interesting topic of conversation.
