We're starting to rebuild the app and expect to be adding the missing features as well. No ETA to completion, and currently it's all code (nothing neat to show off). I'll update as soon as we have something tangible.

We're currently working on the mobile mech lab portion of Mercpedia. Sadly, there is nothing flashy to show at this point, but I did just go through and extract/prep mech, weapon, ammo, and module icons for use.

This is also going to increase the size of the app. Exactly how much, we aren't certain. We're toying with the idea of allowing you to rotate around a 3d model of your mech. However, given the size of each mech, and the included textures, this could result in a very, VERY large app (more than 500 megs, and well over a gig depending on how many mechs are eventually added).

Well, app size doesn't bother me personally. Just make it freakin cool.

Here's the thing. Give me a fully functional mechlab such as Smurfy's or Mechromancer or what have you - even without the analysis tools - and I'll seriously throw money at you right away. I'd HAPPILY pay $5 for a Mechlab I can use on my phone that doesn't drive me insane such as the web based ones which rely on dragging and dropping and - in particular smurfy's - are extremely, extremely sluggish.

I don't care about anything else. i don't really need encyclopedia information (though it's cool) because I know all that. I just badly, badly want a mechlab that works quickly and smoothly on my phone.

Well, it does. Downloading a multi gig android app over the market is not fun. Plus this would eat up an enormous amount of your phones storage. Believe it or not, mobile development is in many ways more difficult than conventional software development due to these restrictions.

We're working on it. It's a complete overhaul though, so it will take a bit longer than just adding the code. We're trying to make it extensible enough to work on every platform, including web, linux, and mac. :P

Thanks. I wish we could spend more time developing it :/

We just added that feature in the latest update. Let me know if you have any problems. It can take up to 24 hours for the update to fully propagate through the market, but once it's there, you should be able to migrate the app to your SD card.

I second that statement fully.

One question, why does the mechs have to reload when you flip-screen?
That and the constantly recurring donation button is a bit of an offset.
Have you considered adding a donation button somewhere awfully visible/obvious instead? B)

I'll bump this with a reminder: Add a mechlab in the Android app - even a simple one without checks to ensure a loadout is valid or calculated stats - and I'll throw all my money at you.

Well, not all of it. But some, and immediately.

Would it be possible to add this to the Amazon app store? I'd love to have this on my kindle fire!

Rotating the screen relaunches the intent which reloads all the data. This will soon be a non-issue as we are completely rebuilding the app from the ground up.

See above. The entire UI is currently being overhauled ;)

o7. We're grinding away when we can. Getting very close to a re-launch with 2.0.

This is something we would like to do, but we haven't had time to fully investigate yet. Also on the board is Blackberry and Windows Phone.

Here is an update - A sneak peak at Mercpedia 2.0! Keep in mind, this is a work in progress and nothing is set in stone:

One suggestion: the Armor bar should be based on the maximum armor for a 100 tons mech, not the maximum armor for a mech of the current ton (which is not very informative).

It is. This is an interactive mockup, so what you see is placeholder info. If you were to test the current app, you'd see that the armor maximum is actually the max that a mech of any tonnage can have, the same as speed (it assumes a max speed without MASC enabled).

But the bars aren't active yet, kind of like these:

The idea is to show their placement and how they will look compared to the rest of the interface.

1.2.257 is live in the app. I was hoping to have 2.0 out already, but it's taking longer than anticipated.

More 2.0 delays?

So you think you'll get 2.0 out for the February patch?

hah.. sorry.. couldn't resist.
