They don't seem to do a damn thing. When I hit mechs with it for 20 seconds straight.. maybe. So why do I say they don't do anything. Well I don't notice enemy mechs overheating very often even with me drilling 'em with double flamers. Also on the other side of that coin I had 2 commando mechs both equipped with flamers attacking me and my heat didn't move other than the norm when I fired my own weapons.

What am I missing? Or am I right and they are pretty useless atm?

it won't make someone overheat, but it will slow down their rate of dissipation (meaning that once their own weapons get them hot, they will STAY hot).

I recommend equipping two, and setting them to chain fire. Flamers create exponential heat increase for the person firing them. By chain firing, you prevent that from occurring.

Or take a Hunchback-4P, replace all the lasers with flamers, and scare the hell out of people before they realise you actually can't hurt them. ;)
Take a look at the weapons table here. You'll notice that flamers cause 0.4 heat per second to the target... and 0.6 to the mech firing them. Currently they're more or less useless.

So basically it's a support weapon that I shouldn't run on a centurion since 2 med lasers would be a much better use of 2 tons? lol

Unless the flamers don't work on allies, the last I checked they don't actually apply heat per second. All they did when i used 9 of them on someone was raise their minimum running temp, keeping it at like 35-40% heat from 0. When I tried it while they were at high heat, they did not receive any bump up in heat nor a slowed cooling rate, and I definitely made sure he had less heatsinks than should be able to dissipate that heat.

tl;dr they don't do anything useful as their damage is all spread out too. Don't use them unless you like how they look when generating more heat for you.

Flamers and MGs are for shooting infantry/battlesuits that we don't have ;) Altho gatling MGs were quite fun in the text based btech games, unless you exploded yourself.

Not usefull at the moment. MGs and flamers will get a buff down the line to adress this.

Quote

  • MG's will be getting a damage boost.
  • Flamers will be getting the heat generation on enemy scaled in a way that makes more sense. You're not going to overheat a Mech but you should be raising their temps to the point that if they fire anything they will shut down/overheat.
