So while perusing the mechlab, I realized that if I didn't spend any money, it would take me atleast another 200 games in order to unlock a single 15k module. My question is; do you think this game will succeed passed "open beta", and if or if not, how long do you think the game will be around for? This isn't a troll post or anything, I'd just hate to spend any amount of money on this game, for it to not be around in another month or two.

So don't spend any money. It's F2P, just go in there and play. You'll have played your 200 matches before long, and if you enjoyed it, perhaps send the devs a thank-you in the form of a MC purchase.

I swear I remember hearing back before summer that full release was intended for September. Well, it's almost December... doesn't look like things are going very well...

.......Ok I'll bite.
Yes this game will last past open beta. Moar content is coming in the next few weeks/months.
Don't fall into the group who thinks this game will fail just because things aren't going the way they want them to.

And yes OP this is a troll topic.

If this was a troll topic I wouldn't be able to tell you that the lowest increment mc cost is $7, because if it was trolling I wouldn't have looked at the prices in serious consideration of making a purchase, and I wouldn't have bothered to make the damn thread in the first place.

it'll probably last for at least a year because they'll be able to con some investors even if they run out of player money. IGP will also be able to throw some money into it if PGI runs out. it can only get better. which is more a reflection of where it is now than any optimistic belief in PGI.

During closed beta when the Founders Pack was available, they made approximately $5million on sales. Now I don't know specificly how big their dev team is or how much debt they were in beforehand but that's probably a fair old chunk toward sustaining the game. I expect some people have also spent money since open beta, they are just beginning to start promotions on MC deals and adding more reasons to buy stuff with MC.

When you factor in how much we as gamers typically spend on single player games and then how long we spend playing them, it's highly likely you will get more benefit out of money spent in a free to play game than any single player game you have bought in the last two years. I say this because even if you replay single player games (which I think are great btw!) you'll still probably be done in a couple of weeks.

Remember so far, whatever you buy with MC you keep access to, that's important for future longevity and replay value. When I think of all the stuff I buy, $15 a month or every couple of months on this isn't really much for entertainment.

It will surely last at least seven more months. So spending 7 bucks comes out to one dollar a month. So why not?

Maybe because that 7 dollars gets you basically nothing?

$5 million dollars is enough to deliver a 100% AAA title. Project Eternity got 5 million, and Obsidian is going to hit it out of the ballpark...cause they wont have to deal with nitwits like IGP.

I'm a backer of Project Eternity, although I think we have vastly different ideas of what budgets triple A games have to work with, EA, and Activision probably spend that much annually on doughnuts and beer for meetings. I have faith Project Eternity will be great, but I sort of doubt you could call it triple A.

I dont think this game is going to die.

The battletech fanbase is too well established to let that happen.

That being said, im not sure how overwhelmingly successful it will end up being. Viable product for sure, but i don't think it is going to get as big as league of legends or any of the AAA premiere titles.

Didn't the mechwarrior franchise kind of die out due to lack of life-blood in the franchise? So didn't it technically happen before already? I could be wrong and make no claim to know for sure.

I'm also still debating what to do, true the amount of money isn't large, and said amount is not really the issue, but another person pointed out that you don't get much for, say as an example $7. GXP conversion and mechbays, any ETA on the new camo's?
