*stops his mech in the middle of the street to look up how to type a comm message* "look out theres an atlas behind you in the trees i cant quite target yet" *notices the urban mech he was trying to save is already destroyed but sends the message anyways*

im pretty sure that is the misery that awaits me the first dozen battles even with training.

Really hope I can use my joystick, just seems so much more natural for walking/turning.

My old joystick broke(R.I.P.) but im waiting to buy one only if its supported.

and yes it is more realistic but its much easier to use a mouse unfortunately.

I thought they said somewhere (don't remember exactly) that they're working with different companies to make sure joysticks are compatible? And here's the link to the blog for anyone that wants to see the controls: http://mwomercs.com/...warfare-part-i/

Oooh interesting setup, hopefully we'll have full remap capabilities, I can totally remap all the arrow keys and whatnot to my mouse, got enough buttons which will be /much/ more fluid.

Indeed. I've got a Logitech Performance MX, and its 4 additional buttons help me out quite a bit. Of course, I'm pretty jealous of my brother's Razor Naga Epic, with its insane number of extra buttons.

I'll likely sit my 3 other buttons to fire groups 3-5, and my fourth has always been set to push-to-talk. I'm very interested in seeing what other customization options MWO will give us.

Never liked the naga that much, didn't sit right and the buttons were annoying. To many thumb buttons. I'll probably remap the enter button to left mouse click, right mouse click will be cycle down through weapon groups, mouse 4 (Thumb 1) will be to cycle between torso and arm weapon clusters.

I must admit to being a little annoyed that the arms are free floating reticles for targeting. Doesn't have to be the fastest moving reticle but it would be cool to be able to aim the arms at the mech on the right while your torso weapons are aimed at the mech in front of you and tag both at the same time.

I hear ya.

Startup/Shutdown
Fore/Reverse Throttle
Turning
Twisting
Crouching
Heat Management
Pitching (Up/Down)
Radar Modes
Targeting
Reading the BattleGrid/Waypoints
Weapons Selection
Ejection
Jumpjets
...there's a bit that could be gone over to get players familiar with the basics.

All of it ultimately put to the test with an obstacle course

I would like to see the traditional gauntlet along with a combination of the above. Started reading the books for the first time, even starting in book 2, Ardan and House Davion Guard are perfect examples of putting their mech 'through it's paces' which involved a gauntlet with weapons in the walls, mines and other nasties they had to learn to avoid and destroy.

Having said that, a training area with obstacle course would be nice just for maneuvers and ability to drop with teammates to work out lance tactics prior to combat drops. I don't want to have to relearn and/or train others during combat... that's bad for morale and the strength/health of the lance/unit.

I think I will just jump in a Jenner and go running around looking at the beautiful scenery. Running over trees, chasing cute little bunny rabbits, jetting around mountaintops, so on and so forth. Maybe play some Kick The Car if it is a urban map, like I used to with friends on splitscreen MechInssault.

I'd love to have training course actually.

I'm going to be bringing probably at least a lance worth of players when I play MWO, so I expect that 5 minutes into the first game our lance will be doing stuff like this:

Me: Mainly sticking to movement, while dabbling with powering down/crouching.
Buddy 1: Probably will be running laps around me and performing ludicris stunts. (damned showoff, grumble grumble)
Buddy 2: Will have run into a wall and gotten blasted to pieces.
Buddy 3: Will have run into -me- and blasted me to pieces.

Honestly, with how tired my friends have gotten of me talking about MWO, I kinda expect the first match to start with every single one of them alpha striking me in the back as revenge.

Day One Prediction:

-Tons of bugs
-Crashing of Servers (Both Login and gameplay)
-Extremely high latency
-Implosion

That's always been the string of events I've experienced on day one of releases anyways...

The game should forced you to play a ten minute training map before hopping into a multiplayer match. It's doubtful anyone wants wall-humpers on their team and neither might they want to be one.

Just my silly two C-bills.

Not to my knowledge, the mouse is torso turning, so it can't be torso turning to left and right /and/ be a floating aiming reticle for arm weapons. If I aim off to the side then my torso starts converging immediately which makes split shots less likely to begin with. I'm also wondering since forward and back on the mouse doesn't appear to control pitch, legging is going to be a lot more difficult as well.

I envision it something like this.

Week before:

Tech specs released, a mad dash for the local Best Buy or Comp USA, Online orders from New Egg abound. Hardcore fans think about rigging up portable toilets or some kind of hose system to avoid unwanted bathroom breaks.

Day Zero The day before the beta is released:

The announcement is finally made and tons of the fans run out to fuel up on Red Bull and or Mountain Dew and an additional assortment of geek fuel "microwave crap". PC's are prepped. Calls are made to work /school with raspy voices ( Calling in sick ) Dates are postponed, subscriptions to other games are left out in the cold.

D-Day:

The mad dash to down load the game is meet by overloaded server, cursing ensues when a 15 minute download takes the better part of a hour and a half or three hours as the download rate slows to a crawl..

D Day +1.5 hours:

With great anticipation the game loads up and we get the first glimpse of the initial product, you poke around a bit figure out a few things. Down a Red Bull and let the games begin.

D Day 1.75 hours:

The first game is filled with chaos, a virtual newb fest with LASERS and high explosives. Nothing is organized players run off to meet a untimely end while others camp and wait for the enemy. Aggravation mounts where the Warriors are separated from the sheep. Hundreds of fists pound the desk top as the first taste of pure Player versus Player gaming brings frustration and new creative expletives as players are cursed for cowardice or stupidity. In equal amounts cheers are yelled as the field is taken by the bold and organized.
* For the love of all that holy I hope there is no friendly fire in this game *

D Day +2.75 hours:

Sweat drips from the brow of those possessed by the ghosts of Mechwarrior past as they now consume a liter of Dew or thier second Red Bull. Small advances made in equipment and skills are applied in hopes of small combat gains.

D Day +5.5 Hours:

Players curse my ( Your ) name as they see me enter the game. Players start to love or hate each other because by now they are starting to see who knows how to handle a mech. If not all ready the obsession of getting the next best of anything is paramount. Those micro transactions for in game stuff starts to look good. The second Red Bull is wearing off, the urge to pee increases the first test of the hose system seems to be working!

D Day +8.25 Hours:

It has been a full day of death and mayhem, whatever phone calls you had have gone unanswered. You feel the need to eat but it's easier to suck down another can of Red Bull. By now you know a few people in game if there is a possibility for teaming up you do so. You start to bring and amazing amount of pain to the opposing team. Your mech starts to show the signs of a skilled warrior by several improved devices and weapons. Maybe its time for a Hot Pocket or Pizza.

D Day +12.75 Hours:

Your legs lose feeling, your hose system needs a change out. Half of your Red Bull or Dew is gone you feel like you have it running through your veins ( Like Charlie Sheen Tigers Blood ). Players now exit the que once they see your name. In game text chat fills with insults as those less skilled are laid to waste.

D Day +16.0 Hours:

You start to feel that oh so tired feeling knowing that you can just do a few more games. You have rolled through numerous games and now it turns into a death fest as your upgraded mech slices though the lesser ones. Those uninitiated that just logged on are laid to waste in a blaze of glory. You have gone through the list of people in the my little pony post and have gotten vengeance on the Bronies. Which is a good thing since you are starting to feel the results of over caffeinated sugary goodness and the lack of comfort your office chair is providing.

D Day +21.15 hours:

South Korean gamers show humble respect for your skills. Caffeine is no longer your friend, sugar has no effect, your thinking that meth might do the trick but Google searching how to make it will take too long ( that is a joke mods). You are down to your last Red Bull. Your Hose system has failed but that's what the adult diapers are for. Your starting to have delusions of grandeur its almost that your mech has a psychic link to your brain and it talks to you. Players now know your name and curse you openly. You make a list, they die first.

D Day + 28.10 hours:

The police knock on your door because your familiy thinks you are missing, your girlfriend thinks you are cheating on her. The cops would give you a DUI but your not driving, well you are but that's in game. Well at this time you don't think its a game anymore the Cops leave after you try to explain how your Lance needs you and you forgot to remove your hose system.

D Day +32.0 Hours:

South Korean Gamers officially create a web page about your exploits and the talk of a internet cafe named in your honor is suggested. You are out of Red Bull. Your girlfriend has posted a "single" status on Face book. Your Family has given up calling and plans on calling in an intervention. A dozen or so players have posted on the forum that you are a hacker of sorts, others call you a god.

D Day +36.25 hours:

Your passed out on the floor mouse or control stick gripped tightly in hand babbling incoherently in a dream about an overheating mech, you move into water to cool down the heat sinks ( that was once an upright bucket for your "hose system" ) :)

Congrats welcome to Mech Warrior Online!
