Anyone know why an atlas can fall its full height and receive zero damage, but when I'm cruising in a jenner, every little bump gives me leg damage? Is this a game-ism or is there cannon to back this up?

I say nay! It is not speed related. I get leg damage while going slow as well with tiny drops. How fast do you think an atlas is going after it falls its full height. V=17m/2x9.8m/s^2 (depending on the planet) is how fast. 83 m/s or 300 kph.

Er, no. Your math is off by quite a bit. A 1000kg object falling 17 meters accelerates to about 66 kph.
Have a look here: The Splat Calculator.

You are correct... I have no idea how I came up with that equation. Bleh.
