The concept is tempting, but why would I run this rather than a HBK-4P with 9 medium lasers at 90kph (255 standard engine with speed tweak)? The HBK-4P has higher alpha damage (45 vs. 36), better DPS (11.25 vs. 8.48) and, due to the speed, often better survivability. The only sacrifices are range, AMS and using torso mounts vs. arm mounts, but the speed makes up for it, in my opinion. Medium lasers (especially when they are densely-packed) also seem to attract less attention. The enemy often doesn't seem to realize that you can put 90 points of damage into their back in 5 seconds before needing time to cool.

Untill they nurf it there is no reason to not put a Gauss on a mech if there is room it always is worth its weight in tons and ammo.

Generally, my response to a Gauss mount here is pumping laser into the side torso anyway. 'Phracts don't generally move fast enough to shed much fire, and two 4x blasts will generally breach the section, destroy the Gauss and occasionally blow it up for good measure (more so after it's next balance pass), depending on whether it's arm or torso mounted. They're not nearly as well shielded as a K2's guns.

The fact that you lose over 75% of your guns when they blow the hump off might be one reason why, but again- it's more to give people something straight-up-stupid to use when grinding various models. You can plug the parts into all three versions to identical effect and performance.

Not everyone likes a gun that explodes when hit. Gauss is where the slug is coming from, ammo you can at least hide somewhere.

Like others, I like the concept.

But I think the DRG-1C is the best mech for quad lazering.

You can fit an XL300, Endo Steel, 19 DHS, and 4 LL on it, with 400 armor. At nearly 90 KPH with speed tweak it will outrun any heavy, outdistance any medium laserboat, and with 19 DHS can sustained fire all those lasers for a while.

Only 4?

1X can mount 5 and run >1 heat efficiency with the stock engine, dhs, endo, and 397 armor. Once I go xl I expect to get it into the >1.2 range, which is plenty usable. I'll grant that not everyone would consider somewhere around 1.1 to be "heat managable" so YMMV and all that.

4 LL is hunchback territory. :)

Though I will admit, 4 is the sweet spot for chain fire, with 5 the first one is waiting while the last one is firing. With 4 it's almost seamless.

Update: I went ahead and made a DRG-1C a few hours ago and put 4 LLAS in the bad boy.

I ripped out the STD engine and put in a nice 320 XL big block since the side torso vulnerability is no big thing on the DRGs anyway. Upgraded with DHS and Endo. Fit 2 LLAS in the left torso and 2 in the left arm. I had to shave a bit of leg armour to cram a few extra DHS for a (not so) grand total of 17. Can't compete with the Awesome's 21 (or more if you don't want a missile pack), but livable.

It runs pretty nice! Top speed of 86KPH (before speed tweak), able to fire off 4 or so Alphas before overheating, reasonably quick to cool down. The weapons are split between two aiming systems and I have them grouped accordingly. Best to take the torso mounted shot first then adjust to their dodging with the more flexible arm mount.

I'm liking it way more than my AWS-9M boated with 4 LLAS. More manoeuvrable, and I feel it gives me much greater survivability. The XL engine isn't a problem, I haven't been side cored in any of the several games I've played in it. The extra speed lets me re-position and really pick my shots on the battlefield. In one game I'm particularly proud of I was able to use the speed of the mech and range of the LLAS to completely disarm two separate Streaker A-1 Cats. The Awesome would never been able to maintain the distance, and I don't think any of the Phracts in this thread would either.

All in all, it's a Dragon. I know a lot of people don't like that mech for reasons of varying legitimacy. But, not a bad way to boat some lasers. If you're as addicted to melting things as I am, it is a decent way to do it.

Saw this build in the field. If nothing else, it looks boss. :P
