This is really starting to annoy me big time. Friendly Fire. Yes it happens to me too. Sometimes I nick an ally with a laser when he is crossing my fire line. And sometimes I cross the fire line of an ally that has a perfectly straight shot on someone. I appologize, this happens from time to time.

BUT! If someone repeatedly fires all weapon groupd into my back because of a slight chance to also hit the enemy, when I was NOT crossing his line but he positioned behind me, THAT ****** me off big time. It is not necessary and not just a small error. It is real bad aming and will most likely get me killed!

So please check your damn aim!

And while we're on it. Yes, most weapons make a realy nice boom when fired. But it's still dumb to fire when there is no enemy. It makes a nice glowing pointer for the enemy and it might also make your friends nervous (or even hit them if youre real bad). So, dont fire if there is no red in your targeting circle. AND DONT FIRE IF THERE IS BLUE.

One of the biggest things to learn in this game seem to be 'just because you can fire, doesn't mean you should'. I've caught myself accidentally firing the wrong weapon group then trying to fire the correct one only to clue in a half second too late that my teammate was already coming between me and the target. I always make sure to jerk my mouse up though if I'm about to hit a friendly. SSRMs can get tricky too with multiple friendlies and moving targets, I know I've fired a few times where it seems questionable.

As for firing when there is no enemy, I do it regularly at the beginning of matches to remind myself of my heat levels and dissipation rate. I always make sure there are no teammates walking by and shoot the ground though. Lasers do make a nice indicator to find enemies that aren't targeted.

It does go on far too often. When I see friendly fire, I always tell my team to cut it out. But usually by then, one has already lost all their back armour and is basically easy pickings for any fast mech that can get behind you once the fight starts and you are engaged. Too many times I've watched my own side tear itself into tiny pieces firing at a single scout mech weaving around them.

It works both ways, walking into an allies line of fire isn't good either. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but it's always annoying when I've got an alpha shot lined up and some Jenner comes running in from the side and takes it in the face.

I've had a couple situations where the UI refuses to load, and I end up having to rely on whoever shot me to determine targets. I've probably gotten a teamkill or two on accident that way. I couldn't even tell, because the scoreboard won't show up either. Silly bugs.

Lots of time I see someone working on a mech from med range for a while only to see a brawler run up and try to get the kill shot... So they shoot their own brawler. :)

Friendly fire will happen I have been killed by guild mates in battle and killed guild mates when we are grouped and using Mumbles.

When your moving they are moving and the target is moving it's hard not to have friendly fire incidents.

Incidents of friendly fire on base when starting remember noobs have not clue or training with the lack of a tutorial as to what mouse buttons do, in most games holding 1 or more mouse buttons moves your character forward so accidents will happen.

That aside the asshats who team kill will be a problem until PGI gets tools in to record/report them.

A couple days ago I took out a friendly Cat in the middle of a big brawl. I had just recovered from an overheat and lost my HUD (thanks bugs), slap some flash/smoke on that and when I came around I saw a big scary Cat turning to face me for what looked like a big fat alpha.

So I shot him in the face with everything I had.

Bagheera has killed <so and so>

:D

That's an outlier though, and I cursed myself and apologized to the Cat.

The most common FF incident I see is when one mech is following another. Lead mech slows down and the second mech walks right through them just in time to take all that fire in the back.

Please, stop lining up directly behind one another, and please stop walking through each other. :)

I know I test fire sometimes to check my heat spike, on new weapons configerations, but I do make sure my line of fire is clear.

Friendly fire happens, mechs have convergance from all over the mech, so it is easily possible that your hip mounted side torso weapon isn't converging on your reticle because some pint pot mech is standing waist high within a 100 meters of you and "blocking" your shots with their back or arm. Your reticle is nowhere near them, but convergence is a wide and cruel master sometimes.

It also happens to be a fact that people just don't respect fields of fire, it's not just the shooters job to concede and stop firing because you decided to walk in front of him in the middle of combat. You also need to consider NOT walking in front of your team mate just because you want the kill.

Learning to pilot your mech doesn't just mean going forward. If you choose not to walk in front of your ally, you can both get shots on the enemy, imagine that.

If you're gonna get in the middle of a fire fight, expect to get it from both sides. Suck it up, because if I can, you can. Not all friendly fire is somebody elses fault.

There are two sides to this coin. I frequently see players step deliverately into my lane of fire and stop to shoot, and I am sure I probably done this without thinking. Now I make a concerted effort to roll right or left on my approach, so mechs coming up behind me can fire as well. Not only does this save my back armor, but it allow more weapons fire against the enemy mech.

I've pulled shot because a team mate steps in front of me but friendly fire still happens. Even had my mate take me out with 2 ER PPC's and a gauss straight into my back, to be fair he was 600m away and I was in close to the enemy.

plus friendly fire should be a tactic in getting an enemy between you and another enemy mech, gives some cover especially if your mech is smaller than theirs

some 'mechs (like the dragon) have ******** weapon vectors from their arm weapons, I remember firing a gauss and a ppc at a catapult I thought I had a clean shot at, apparently there was a friendly K2 right in front of my gauss that was not on my screen at all, suffice it to say I killed both, and I was probably more surprised and pissed than either of them

If only we had VOIP to let other puggers know when we're about to cross their arc like most do in Vent, TS3, etc.

Oh right, it's not one of the four pillars.

Yep, like I said. When I cross some ally's line of fire and get accidently shot ... it's my fault and I suck it up. **** happens. I should have checked their fields of fire. But if I dont cross someone's field and still catch friendly fire by several shots, it's not an accident anymore, it's a very bad and very egoistic ally.

I was not ranting about those case where I walked into someones shot or was running wild into a close battle. My rant is about utterly avoidable incidents, often when people just want to get the kill no matter who is standing in front.

And yes, If I have a good shot and I see some allied Jenner running through my line of fire, I curse him, but I HOLD my fire till he passed. It's called "playing as a team".

I've pegged a few people in the back during brawls. I never fire if there is good chance I will hit an ally. And with lasers I can move them away from a friendly mech if I do accidentally shoot it. I do my best to stay out of teammate's fields of fire. If I have to cross them I do it quickly.

There are times with people with bad pings just warp in front of your shot (myself included) and it is unavoidable.

Good firing discipline is a must. My unit members have also TK'd me in the past but we just usually laugh it off. However if there was an intentional team killer we would neutralize them(because killing them only gives us a fine) and report them. Intentional Team Killing is not acceptable.

This happens, sometimes it is unavoidable. What I find to be totally annoying is people testing the weapons at the start of the game when everyone is bunched up in a tight group. The inevitable happens and the one that fired deserves to be buried up to his neck on an anthill and covered with honey. If I hear a srry I am normally cool with it, but more often than not, that same player rams into your back as he marches off at full speed.

I agree with you on all points OP. People who block team med range fire on purpose by moving in extra close, so only they can line up the killshot are also a problem. They hurt their team big time by making it less effective, and always manage to catch ff. PPC bolts and LRM's underway are underway.
