So, some of you (if not most of you) guys may see that when you hit a mech with, say, a gauss rifle, you can see some "metal" beneath the armor. I'm not talking about the mech glow, it's some sort of texture (which is usally a metallic white) which resembles metal that appears "under" the camo/paint.
Any idea why this doesn't always show up? I can sometimes see the textures mixed together in a weird way (maybe I'll add some pictures later).

ALSO: I have noticed on stationary mechs that, if they sit on a hill or some other sort of incline I was able to see ( :) )... the legs adapting to the position of the ground beneath them!

Edit: Picture of the bug (I think i'll send a ticket too)Posted Image

It's probably a transparent decal like bullet holes in many FPS games. Typically there's a limit to the number being shown.

Damage models have never worked for me, ever..

other then missing arms and smoke.

I once saw a picture of a damaged cent and it looked amazing, I can't find that picture anymore though. I think that was the only person ever to see damaged models.

Sounds like a broken shader library actually, try wiping your D3D9 cache folder under the game/user folder, and see if it happens again. It's not like all the shaders they use are even stable so, speculating now is kind of silly.

At one point back in CB I ended up with 'mechs with no textures - just big white robots stomping around. Very easy to spot.

It did seem to have a sort of a result, though it may hae been just from the fact that i restarted the client. I will keep testing this.

they actually have a 3d map for the mech under its armor with internals and stuff, where if u tear through armor it will show. Its not been implemented yet. you can imagine how much strain that would put on a system especially since even not it doesn't run that well.

on that note i wish PGI would be more realistic and work on all the problems instead of making 3d models of armor stripped mechs that the system can't handle. however cool it is

I do not understand why people think just because they are adding cosmetic changes to game means they are not working on things that need to be fixed like netcode.

Programming is done piecemeal. Different teams work on different aspects of the game. Just because one team has something finished and working, does not mean the other team completely stopped working on fixing what needs to be fixed.

It... really doesn't put much strain at all on the server.

You may be shocked to know, that this is actually a holdover from "Mechwarrior 3"

In mechwarrior 3, as you did damage to another mech, you could begin to see "wiring" under the "armor" Really it was simply a painted on texture.but it looked cool for the time.

During closed beta, quite often you could see the "Damaged" texture on the HBK... after a mech cooled from being hit, you could see internal components that were covered previously by the paint on the mech. I haven't seen this in near 2 months however.
