Hey guys, just a thought ran through my head today as i was trying to get my friends in on this game. I think it would be really helpful to new players and friends to be able to gift mechs (not parts, but just mechs) to friends with MC or C-bills. this way your friend doesnt have to grind trial mechs, and you can help them out and get them a mech they would like to play. Also i think this would help PGI because it would make more people buy MC for mechs for friends.

On a side note: I think MC prices for mechs should drop a bit before doing this.

MC costs have already been adjusted to their correct levels. Don't count on further adjustments.

And a vehement "HELL NO!!!" to any kind of player trading. This includes gifting. This would enable units to have their entire teams skip the beginning grind. Having the ability to have a brand new player with a fully-customized Atlas on day one? No thanks.

Also opens up the problem of compromised accounts. As seen on other games as soon as the abillity to trade or gift is in theres always the chance of someone getting access to your account using all your CB or MC and sending it off. Besides i think the game should be further developped before this could be well implemented.

Gotta go with the "no thanks" on this one. It's more incentive to account thieves and gold spammers than real benefit to players.

As Cannon said, the basis of gifting will create a new atmosphere of players hacking your account and sending off your cbills and MC. It happened with Diablo 3 where it has a vast trading system where you can even trade in-game items for real-life cash supported by the in-game auction house. This has left the game with the most highest rates of account hacking. Probally even beating WoW. I've been hacked 3 times on Diablo 3, 2 times they stole everything I had and I was left with nothing. 3rd time they changed my e-mail, password, security question, added a authenticator on it so I could never access it so they could sell it to somebody. Had to spend a entire day on Tech Support to get my account back. There is no way I'm doing all that for MWO.

While i like the idea of helping out fellow team mates with c-bills or a mech. i would have to say NO WAY! my reasoning for this is the trial mech grind is an important learning curve for any mech pilot (especially those new to battletech/mechwarrior). This gives them the chance to learn how the different mech classes and mech work, feel and fight. from they they can figure out what mech and class suits their piloting. And to be honest it doesn't really take that long to get the money for a mech

Not a good idea I think especially when community warfare comes out. Will allow rich factions to spam in members that are fully decked out.

I'm hoping that things like this will be introduced when Community Warfare hits.

Why?

...I want to be a rich eccentric.

I want to be the crazy guy who makes people fight in arenas for my amusement under ridiculous rules to win prizes. I want to found my own Solaris Arena and have people compete in the Silly League. Only allowed to fire weapons while airborne, only allowed to move at top speed, must use an XL100 engine... Rewards like an entire, fully kitted out Tier2 Atlas, or a trio of Hunchbacks for the winner.

A man can dream.

Gifting mechs would be a neat feature.

As would a auction house for mech's and equipment. Something like Forza 4. Not for stupid party hats and crap, but so you can get your hands on that XL you've been drooling over, but for a bit cheaper than new. As well, you can finally auction off your old Cat, Hunchie, ect... w/o taking such a huge loss.

By allowing player trade, you open up the game to gold farmers and sellers.

Gifting new mechs with MC only purchases doesn't allow for financially beneficial trades to take place. The best you could get with the current pricing, is around 10% off and even then the mech was still payed for and I don't think there is much to complain about by pgi, they still get payed by those "resellers" for want of a etter term. Sure they are making a slight profit off of pgi's work, but they could easily have set up a shop that buys **** wholesale and sells it at standard pricing... Oh wait that's called a retail store.

Nope, you're wrong. I have never piloted a trial mech (ok, I did it once or twice just to see how they play) and I don't think I lost some kind of experience other than frustration. I was playing my founder's CAT since the beggining and I became really good with those mechs, especially missileboats, be it LRMs or SRMs (I don't like boating streaks).
But on the other hand, I also think that gifting or trading mechs shouldn't be available (or at least possible only to members of your unit, when community warfare is on). Why?
First, because of already mentioned here hacking problem, second because there's an easy way to skip the grinding if you already know what mech you're gonna play: buy MC.

Maybe there is a way they could let people sponsor prize matches or tournaments down the road - trading though is a bad business decision.
