So I was thinking, and though I have mentioned this before in at least one of my Topics, I wanted to point out something that I didn't like in MW4:Mercs. I never liked how, on mechs such as the Uziel, you could remove the PPC from it's hardpoint on the 'Mech and then fill that up with medium lasers. It's not what you think though, I don't mind that I can remove the weapon and fill it with lasers, I don't like how afterwards the mech shows no sign of having changed. I can obviously attribute this to the technical limitations of the time, but I would like to see three different barrels for each medium laser to be firing from, not just one single cannon firing three different weapons. If that sounds confusing, what I'm trying to say is that I would like to see some physical change on my mech from the alterations that I am making on it. Ifi swap out an LRM battery for an SRM battery, I would like to see some change in the design of the launching platform on my mech to show that they are SRM's.
I would also like to bring up another topi, and that is the cost and availability of 'mechs at the time. This is before the Clan invasion and the somewhat revival of the IS economy of producing mechs at a larger scale. As far as I know from the reading the fiction, mechs aren't just items to bought, they hold sentimental value, and are often passed down from one member of a family to another. Getting a new mech wasn't as simple as going to the market and buying one at that time, and if you did, they were rather expensive. How will this be handled in the game, I wonder? Anyone want to share thoughts/opinions (:

I wouldn't be surprised if we could see that PPC become a medium laser in MWO.When it comes to mech cost this is around the time of the clan invasion and they do make a resurgence lowering thier price.

Starsiege had a simple hardpoint system where whatever you replaced, the 3d model changed as well. It would be harder here, since weapons can be mounted within the body or within the hands.
I too would like the weapon swapping to be visible on the model, it will be important for sizing up opponents in multiplayer.

I know this makes me a heretic among by Battletech peers, but I actually liked MW4's system. Battletech's method for allowing anything to mount anything, with enough work, seemed to make it rather pointless to actually get a specific chassis. Especially true in previous MW games where you could magically ignore all those Technician rolls so theres no chance of the mod not working.

Interesting to see what will happen. 'Hardpoints' were not really used in the Inner Sphere until the " Omni Mechs". All the weapon loadouts were set for each mech variation. MW4 used hardpoints. MPBT had the variants. I don't mind using either.
