That's why everyone is complaining.

Let's make a 1-10 scale:

10: the "best" games of recent memory (I don't even know what those are, actually).
Diablo 3: a solid 3. Maybe 4 for the first 5 hours.
SWTOR (which I liked alot): 6.5
Torchlight 2 (which I've been playing a bit): 6
WoW in its "glory days" (maybe BC and before WOTLK): 10

MWO AS-IS and WITH ALL FAULTS is, IMHO, a VERY SOLID 7 out of 10 right now.

The problem is that us fans KNOW AS AN ABSOLUTE FACT that this game could be an 11 out of 10 if "just a few things (at least in our eyes)" were fixed - and that's why we're QQ'ing all the time.

That's my perspective, anyways.

I do not need much more than just Big Stompy Combat to be happy, so I will say 6+ in the current build.

I remember MW2 and Kali online, there was lag shooting, and warping and imbalance, there were no rewards or XP or any other additional things, Just Big Stompy Combat, and everyone enjoyed it. People demand too much instant satisfaction today.

How many years of development does it take to make a great game?

If the community does not kill this game in it's infancy, it could be the best Mech Combat Shooter ever.

Dear lord how much cool-aid did you drink?

When MW2 and Kali existed that was normal, therefore we accepted it.

Things have changed in 17 years; we're no longer on 28.8k dial-up nor are we using a kludge that routed IPX over said modems.

Though playing this game, you wouldn't know it.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree that this game could be the best shooter ever and I'd give it a 6 out of 10 right now because it is just so addicting to play. I knocked off 4 points for:

1. Lack of Lobby and Matchmaking
2. Confusing Interface
3. New player experience (No tutorial, no way to find help in game)
4. General Game Stability and Netcode

LOL, you have a point, while I am enjoying myself for the most part I'm still lag shooting on some Mechs.
Kali and MW2/Mercnet (plus the mods) were great. At least we don't have to deal with Games for Windows Live with MWO. MWO has room for growth, and steps albeit small seem to be going in a positive direction.

I think the best game right now is tribes ascend for FPS shooters with a sci-fi sqew. balanced matches, easy and fast to find a match, tons of cool medals/achievements, all kinds of stat tracking and pie charts, and neat skins & extra weapons plus lots of ways to customize your soldier.

I think MWO can be that good, if not better, and I think that PGI is starting to figure out what it takes to make the game that good, so I am hopeful that as we get to spring MWO will be a real champion release :)

Good for you.

For me the game needs work on the Social UI, it needs tools and objectives for larger player organizations (like guilds, corporations, factions).

It needs about 60% of the game implemented.

SWTOR COULD have been a 100 on a 1-10 scale. They had the ability to print money and they blew it due to poor planning, poorer released game concept, etc etc. That company released an MMO released as a FPS with more bugs than I care to count. And that doesn't take into account class imbalance.

MWO is a freshly soft-released/still in beta game that is still working through balance and programming bugs. Nobody dropped $60 for this game and nobody got conned into 12 months at $15 per. We're talking about a game that cost you nothing, continues to cost you nothing, where you drive a giant robot and fire lasers at other giant robots. Yes, the problems are annoying and I hate the random crash, hud bugs, weapon imbalance, etc. But there is a saying that you can't complain about a free lunch. You either need to decide if you're gonna chow down or not. The rest is solely your fault.
