Otherwise it's just like paying to unlock every string in Guitar Hero or other games which have a lot of detailed content and much more on the way. Not quite enough in a standard pallet to justify value for real money. Put my own paint scheme, on the line or something unique to my mech and out comes the wallet but my purchase should be allowed for any mech owned, just pay a C-Bill repaint fee if you can't make up your mind or want to see what it looks like in game before committing. {;^>
Besides there are more single colours to choose from (16M once a custom pallet is set up) than there is enough money for anyone to pay for them all. It's all about custom decals and patterns if there is real money to be made here. So far there are 37 Colours and thus far only a few are purchased with C-Bills. The average for those who are eager to get a different coloured mech are looking at ~$0.50 per colour give or take a couple MC with Black and White being $1.00 each.

Methinks you're a little off base here, freeloader.
Both of you have read Mr Penguins' post, and spectacularly failed to understand the words.
He was explaining to a founder why 300k C-Bills is cheap, he wasn't saying he couldn't afford it - He was rebutting someone who was trying to say it's too expensive.
I think you should both apologise, one for jumping to conclusions, and second for being so rude.

1. Schemes cost to much considering they aren't saved so you can swap back and forth if you create a new one.
2. More colors please. Where is hot pink and other neon colors? We need a better green too. Oh and... 200+MC for a color is to much...lower the price
3. Hula girl's colors are washed out...make it better.
Overall....
Good start to the camo system...I like it.

agreed.
Yes more patterns/collors would be nice but those will come.
As it stands this is my only serious gripe with the camo-spec system.

Current exchange is roughly: $1 (USD) = 179 MC.
a single use of "Premium" color in one color slot = 250 MC or about $1.40 USD
Paint all 3 colors with "Premium" color and your single use paint scheme is about $4.20
A Commando COM-1D is 700 MC or about $3.91
So a complete ONE TIME "premium" color custom paint job on a Commando COM-1D costs $.29 MORE than the mech itself...
And if you want to change it, you have to pay more. Change your pattern and your money is *poof*... wasted.
So, we're expected to believe that a coat of paint (that comes pre-distressed) costs more than a Commando mech (which you get to keep). Yeah... okay.
Yeah, I know the other colors are only 125MC (each use)... but that's still about $.70 per color or about $2.10 USD per SINGLE USE paint job.
Even the 312,500 C for basic colors is overpriced... 937,500 C for a "basic" single use paintjob on a mech.
This was just done all wrong... I really don't know what you guys at PGI were thinking. On a some level I feel like we're being trolled (and not in a funny way).
Oh... and fix the "You can't use your PC Gamer skin or colors associated with it at all if you don't have MC in your account" bug.

this one phrase made my eyes nearly bleed because of the 4th grader level of spelling, sorry, but, if you are an adult, please spell like one. they need to make money yes, but, making those of us who want to pain our mechs RENT colors and schemes is absurd and a bloody good way to anger and alienate clients.

Yesterday some people already talked about a Hello Kitty Atlas...
So please.... Try to keep some color-discipline. At least it is a war game and no something where you throw fluffy balls at each other.
Let's have them blue, yellow, maybe dark purple... but a Hello Kitty Atlas??????

the colors all look kinda meh (not mech, just meh). I have a jenner, cataphract, centurion and various hunchbacks in my garage, and i just couldn't make any of my mechs look better than with default color.
Granted, i'm no artist, but really, this shouldn't be too hard! All the colors look just dirty, and there are lots of parts that don't get painted... anyway - it looks rather bad.
Oh - and the fact that the least customizable mech is... my founders mech - that's just absurd.
There are a few that made decent configs, but I don't feel like I can do them with the C-Bill colors at all. at least the PC Gamer Skins allow you to change something for no cost at all.
The pricing doesn't really encourage me to try out the rest. Both C-Bills and MC prices seem rather high.

To this I say "Meh"....
Freedom for all...tolerance...don't crap on people's hello kitty mechs....just shoot em dead, and then you don't have to look at them anymore. Don't limit me because you don't like pink.

Yes it is silly, that's exactly the point! Your battlemech colours and pattern are purely a cosmetic thing and doesn't impact your ability to deal damage and drive better. That is exactly the point; why should something so meaningless cost SO much.
That's because it does impact your game-play, but not in a direct way. Those that came up with the system understand that and realise the product loyalty people have towards the franchise. This is where we are moving outside of the game environment and into marketing. Never never underestimate a customer who displays passion for your product or idea. This game is pretty much founded on years of this passion shown towards the MW/Battletech universe. In a way this has given the developers and their investors a strong platform to stand on, but at the same time they need to meet expectations of the audience.
People can become attached to virtual things; their battlemechs, the stuff they equip them with and the colours the paint them. This has been shown clearly in many other games. This is why I think the current camo system is more of a betrayal of that loyalty to the brand and has become more of a money grabbing ploy. Yes they need to make money, it is a business at the end of the day, but I say they should trend more carefully in future.
As we are in Beta I would say they should have brought the camo system in for free, maybe c-bill cost. Let us test it, then reset the whole thing on general release and then bring in costs. But bring in the costs after strong community feedback or at the very least give us a chance to throw some ideas around about how it could have been done.
