The next Hero mech, I just checked on Sarna, and can't find anything on a CTF with that name. So I ran a bing search and found references to a Kiev Rus' epic hero, a pre WWI russian aircraft, and the original title to the film "The Sword and the Dragon".

After doing the research, I'm curious about the loadout on this thing.

Note that it's due out Dec 4th, not Nov 27th. So all we have now is the data from the announcment and mwomercs.com entry on the thing. Exactly where those ballistic HP's are is of interest...

From the picture on the website it looks like one in each arm and one in the RT. If that is correct I suspect we will see a boatload of these the day they are patched in.

soooo
45 tons on the 3 gauss
7 tons on structure.
10 tons on an xl 225
Leaves 8 tons on ammo and armour.

Convergence issues (arms+torso will be a ******), REALLY low ammo and armour, on a mech that moves ~53kph?
Pu-leaze.....

I don't think we really have to worry about this thing. We're talking paper armor with three, highly-explosive weapons. Triple gauss is far from viable. Might as well just take 4 PPCs.

There is no reference to this hero pilot in tabletop canon. My theory is that they're trying to draw some Russian players from World of Tanks.

Or PGI just wants people to buy a Cataphract that makes coin!

Yup, this mech doesn't seem to be from the BT universe... some rusky mech of their own creation...

  • CTF-2X Cataphract George - Taking a 2X variant Cataphract salvaged after the 7th Crucis Lancers capture of Tikonov to replace his aging Warhammer, in the lead-up to the War of 3039 Fox's Teeth member George Lytton's Lucky Thirteen was outfitted with an experimental NAIS Mk. III ER Large Laser prototype to replace the standard model and corrosive coolant Double Heat Sinks[10]. BV (2.0) = 1,367[3]
  • CTF-3X Cataphract Sara - Salvaging her father's 'Mech after his death fighting Clan Jade Falcon on Wotan in 3051, fellow Fox's Teeth member Sara Lytton had Lucky Thirteen fully upgraded prior to the FedCom Civil War. Adopting a modern take on the 2X variant's weapons load-out, the now production grade ER large laser is joined by two ER Mediums in the torso while the SRM-4 is swapped for a ammo-efficient Streak SRM-4 and single ton of reloads, with the standard autocannon replaced with a advancedRotary AC/5 supplied with three tons of ammo. Mounting Ferro-Fibrous armor allows a ton less to be carried to be devoted to CASE in each torso, while switching all its heat sinks to doubles improves its heat dissipation. [11] [12]
  • CTF-5MOC Cataphract Naomi - Magestrix Naomi Centrella's customized variant used during ***** battles on Sian and laterCanopus IV, the 'Mech has been equipped with a Heavy PPC in its right torso and a Plasma Rifle with 2 tons of ammo found its right arm. Also, it has 4 one-shot Ten-Tube Rocket Launchers mounted into both torsos. As secondary weaponry, it has been given a Medium Pulse Laser in its left torso and Extended Range Medium Laser in the right arm. To handle the heat load, the 'Mech has 15 Double heat sinks. Protecting the hull of the wife of the Chancellor, 'Mech is encased with Stealth Armor with it required Guardian ECM Suite. To give it mobility, the customized machine has four Jump Jets mounted into its torsos. BV (2.0) = 2,104 [13]

  • Caesar - One of the first new 'Mechs designed for the AFFC, the Caesar resembles a smoother and streamlined Cataphract, with captured Capellan 'Mechs used in the early development testing for the design. Closer to the original Capellan rather than Davion Cataphract, the Caesar mounts a ER PPC, Gauss Rifle and four Medium Pulse Lasers.

well those wouldn´t have made for good heromechs, since there seems little to no difference to the stock variants, except for the non existent ssrm4 in the "Sara"... i´m a little confused about THIS decision though

but tripple gauss is a non issue i´d say...if the gausscat was a papermech, the 3 gauss phract is what? air with a cockpit? twingauss + ppc sounds more like a thing, and you don´t need that "IM" for that ...

i´d have taken the "George Lytton"... DHS from stock would be good enough, but i´m not a marketing expert ^^ :)

Guess the reason for them coming up with their own hero mech is because there are no canon hero mechs of the Cataphract in the right time period

That argument is only valid if they suddenly felt an urgent need to introduce a hero phract.

Endo Steel gives you another 3,5 tons. And you could downgrade the engine even further.

I think there will be more hero mechs custom made for this game.

Because if you look at hero mech variants - they barelly differ from stock variants and most of them can be done with weapon customization we already have.

A Gauss, 2 LBX10s and AMS looks like a feasible build. With XL, it can even outrun an Atlas! :D

And those two LBX10 do exactly what that 2 SRM6 can't do for 6 tons on a 2x? In its current implementation the LBX10 is redundant.

I wouldn't worry about a tripple Gauss either, this much rather looks like a faster 4x with multiple UAC/AC5 and Mlasers. It will be a CBill grinder for the Phract specializers.

CTF-IM Cataphract "Ilya Murmoets" - Grigori Kovalenko's variant runs 2 Medium Lasers, 2 AC/5s, 1 AC/10, 1 Small Laser
(This is an apocryphal "Mech, designed for MechWarrior Online)

I like this 'mech but it's CT is very big and/or weak. Whenever I get killed it's almost always my CT being blown up.

Not saying this isn't true... but you could say the same about all of the heavy mechs in this game. Assaults too for that matter. Bigger mechs mean bigger hitboxes.
