I will definetly have a different color for each map, and utilize all the Passive Sensors and ECM I can. Just look at this image.

Well I saw it, but I see what you mean. Choosing a light woodland camo over flat brown would make you harder to see at range, or through cluttered terrain. Extra incentive to not go in rambo with parade colours.

Has it been confirmed that we will have the option to go passive?

Yeah, from watching the Light Mech Breakdown video I came to exactly the opposite conclusion.

In the Atlas startup video, you can see all the electronics readouts, and active and passive radar was part of that.

camo only works if u stand still in the woods so im not sure if that will be any better than the solid colors. im very pleased to see the devs trying to match tho. i have high hopes for the passive/active radar but after watching the light/med/heavy/assault vids no one seems to be doing much more than zerging into each other atm. i know the mechs are great, the combat is great, and i approve of the mechlab. i need to see the tactics in play. show me a camo jenner alerting a commander and him dropping an airstrike on a target. that will convince me

Well that's just because the gameplay vids were on a small map. I feel/hope the larger maps will better incorporate things like passive sensors & camo.

I have to admit that other dragon was pretty well hidden.

Hmm, it's true that by wearing the appropriate camo you will be harder to see. But something to think about is how that won't make it any harder for your sensors to spot someone. Sure, you may not see a mech because he blends in with the trees, but you sure will see that big red triangle above his head. This makes camo much less important and cover much more important.

However, I personally think it'd be cool to see a system similar to Crysis 2's tagging system implemented. This way you have to have your reticule over a mech and press a button to target him and share that info with your teammates if that mech is not actively firing weapons. There's probably many reasons why this is a bad idea and I doubt it'll be in the game, but it'd make scouting more of a challenge instead of just running ahead until your sensors pick up some mechs for your friends to shoot at.

Then again, it also depends on your sensor range vs your weapon range. Will you be able to hit a mech with a large laser who is out of your sensor range and therefore not target-able? In that case camo might be moderately useful.

OP is right, passive sensors and camo are going to do great. Null Signature System should be even more amusing.

Anyone hear if they're putting in IR and/or MagRes vision toggles?

Passive sensors will shut down your radar and such (at least in previous iterations), so you likely may not have that red triangle above your head until you're within a short distance of the enemy.

This would be invaluable for Scouts and stealthy flank attacks.

Not only is the second 'hidden' Dragon camouflaged but the mech is also crouched,

Nothing says 'you can't see me' like crouching behind some trees in a 30ft tall, 60 ton mech.

First thing I will be doing in combat is going passive, until either A. I suspect the enemy is nearby, and even then it will be a quick burst of on off, B. I have engaged and require active sensors to employ my weapon systems effectively or C. I am discovered and broadcasting the enemy position to other friendlies for support.

Here's an interesting question: will you be able to broadcast targeting info while in passive mode (if passive mode exists in MWO)? If you can, that's a huge boost for scouts. If you can't that makes passive mode much less useful. We already know that detection is much more based on line-of-sight. Normal sensors can't pick you up behind an object. So passive mode is less necessary than say in MWLL where sensors can pick you up as long as you're in range.

In MWO passive mode would only be useful in the cases where a mech does have line of sight and is in range of normal sensors. Being hidden this way is almost useless to the scout mech if he isn't able to broadcast targeting info (which makes sense that he wouldn't be able to. Why would he be able to broadcast targeting info if those sensors are shut down?) Blinking passive mode on and off doesn't do any good, because your friends wouldn't have time to get a missile lock.

My guess is that passive mode won't be an option in MWO. And if it is then it will work a lot differently than in past MechWarrior games.
