The ones that should be upset the most should be PC Gamer themselves. It was "their" promotion and you can clearly see this by just looking at "their" remarks in PC Gamer on page 98 where you find the code at. And I quote from the Executive Editor Evan Lahti,
"We cannot clothe you directly (at best, bending our magazine into a tube produces a questionable and rigid shoe), but
we can dress your enormous war robot. This month,
we're pleased to offer two free MechWarrior Online items alongside our cover story. One is a skin: think of it as one of those adorable puppy sweater, but meant to inspire terror in your opponents.
We're also putting Coconut Monkey,
our humble mascot, in your cockpit as
an exclusive in-game bobblehead.
You're welcome. Our colors will protect you. Assuming, of course, that you're doing your mech-fighting on a planet that is entirely
red and
black. Hey, maybe Piranaha Games' next MechWarrior Online map will be set in a lipstick factory at night. In that highly-specific scenario, you will be invisible.
Our MechWarrior Online skin works with any mech. And as brave teammates die in battle (possibly from stopping to type: "Dude, where'd you get that skin?") when they enter spectator mode they'll be able to spot your Coconut Monkey bobblehead nodding along inside your virtual cockpit. Many bumper stickers claim God as a co-pilot. By furnishing your robotic war cabin with the elusive longtime mascot of PC Gamer, however, you call upon a greater force: a reappropriated, digitized Hawaiian souvenir. He has no hands, but he does have an unflappable demeanor, even in the face of harrowing laser attacks."
As you can clearly see by the text above where I have high lighted the skin and its colors are clearly PC Gamers intellectual property and changing said colors would be a breach of contract. What PGI did to this promotion is clearly wrong and underhanded
PGI do the right thing and reinstate the correct colors. There are a ton of shades of red and black you could of used for your "pay to use" colors..........
