Which is great, but much like the UK its a shame the average speed is pretty...well...crap.

What kind of connection speed does one need for a game server?

Depends on the game, but it will require decent upload as well as download speeds.

Yes, but I'm wondering what 'decent' means for upload speeds, 3Mb/s, 10Mb/s, 20Mb/s?

edit: changed MB to Mb

Good question, i never played crysis 2 and google is not being helpful.

For example the connection i am on here in the UK, 30mb fibre to the cabinet has a capped upload speed of about 3Mbs, so upload speeds are about 300kb/s which is not a great speed.

Like i say i cant find any Crysis 2 requirements that state optimal hosting, i would imagine 300kb/s as an average would not be good for a 12v12 server though.

I'm looking at the crysis developer's wiki for Crysis Wars, they suggest:

CPU: Intel Core2Duo 2.4GHZ or AMD64 Dual Core 2.6GHz
RAM: 1GB
Bandwidth: 5Mbps

I have 5Mbps upload and well over that for download for 35 USD/month.

I was also looking as source games like CS and TF2, those appear to need much less, more like 2Mbps.

I'm happy I live in Sweden where 100/100 lines are commonplace.

I see you're new here. They HAVE already mentioned that there will be a persistent "Inner Sphere" being fought over by Faction members and Merc units alike. Try reading some of the first Dev Blogs.

Just because there's persistent metagame in the background where planets change hands based off of victories/losses in the 12v12 matches doesn't really say "persistent world" to me. Saying "persistent world" makes people think that you're saying MWO is going to be an MMORPG where you can roam around various planets in your mechs during the downtime between matches.

MWO is not going to be a persistent world, just a multiplayer shooter with a persistent metagame.

Guess I'll check back later, probably a bit early on this question :( . I appreciate all the quick responses even the jerky ones.

Love that the community seems so strong.

I'm sure there will be an official statement closer to open beta release. Make sure to check the forums every few days, it seems like we are in a media storm recently. You don't wanna miss out on any new videos or 'mech releases!

And please don't judge us too harshly, the community is great, trolls and all.

This is the most likely scenario. I think some might be confusing the "persistent" part. In a few years, who knows?!

Play the game, preach the game, invite your friends and family. The more people playing, the more content and revenue, the more time and resources PGI will have to implement features. Can't wait to see what this game looks like 2 years from now :D

Cheers.

As i said in another thread i hope they will only have one "world" in MWO (just like EVE).
