Has anyone actually tested this before I get a bunch of hunches delivered as fact?

SRMs) No benefit from Tag.(Little reason to bother carrying it)
Streaks) No real benefit unless the enemy has an ECM, and only beyond 180m. But if they don't have one, then it isn't doing much because you already have a decent lockon timer and Streaks are very accurate.
Tag is basically a long range laser pointer for LRMs. Of course that makes no sense at all, because marking targets is something a scout should do for the artillery, not something the artillery should be doing itself. But hey, this is Piranha logic.

Didn't say Streaks ever... for the sake of responding.
Question answered, did a little research to confirm it is right.

Tag & SSRMs or SRMs can be placed in different weapon groups while still providing the same tag bonus.
Excluding the situation where the hardpoint you has placed Tag in doesn't get blown out.

No, me am not implying anything.
Me am stating that Tag will still function regardless of what else be located in your weapon group as long as the component/tag itself doesn't get destroyed.
If you has only Tag in your weapon group & fire tag then it will still work & any friendly including yourself will be able to target mechs under ECM cover as long as tag lock be maintained.
If you has Tag + all your weapons in your weapon group, tag will still work.
Also Tag provides no bonus to SRMs at all.
But the tag will still work for negating the ECM which gives an indirect bonus to SSRMs & LRMs by allowing the targeting so that can be used at range (180-270 meters).

Quiet! Don't tell PGI, or they will call it "TAG toggle option" and put it in next patch notes

I do the same btw, I use my Swiss army knife tough.
