How to implement 3rd person without ******* off the 1st person elitist minority.
1. Make spotting system the same as 1st person. This has been said before already so nothing new here.
2. Make it LIMITED in time of use. So as a training way to teach new people how to mechwarrior you put them into 3rd person but with a small, and very short, tutorial. Explaining that after say 10,000 XP, or "would of gained" XP (since trials give no XP the XP they would of gained would still count against the 10k) that they would go back into 1st person and not be able to return to 3rd. There would be a countdown timer in the top corner of there mechlab showing them how much "time" they have left. Also maybe tie this 10k countdown to the CW so once there 10k is up they can now join the ranks of the true mechwarriors in the fight for the inner sphere. This would give them (the noobs) time to adjust to the game, they would be in there own mixed que (ELO style pug matchmaker). Full hud and everything would be there so once they are forced into 1st person they would of, by that time, learned where the indicators are for where legs/torso are in both the mini map and on the hud. During any time of the 10k limit they can swap between 1st and 3rd so they could see what 1st is like and will be like.
3. (Alt idea) Do the above but when they reach say 5k XP left bring a pop up saying if they would like to try 1st person for a match. If they say no, then after every 1k XP gained bring it back up again until they say yes (so yes bug them!). Once they get close to the last of there XP timer left have a pop up come and say that there "training" is complete and that the last few matches will be there last with 3rd person. That they are now a true mechwarrior and now will be in 1st person, where a true mechwarrior plays. Make the noob proud to be using 1st person, make it an honor and not something that they feel forced into (while still forcing them).
This proposal would be the best way to implement it without actually implementing it to where it would effect the CW and thus split the community. Even tho there may be hundreds of thousands of us playing, its still better to NOT divide the community at all. It may not effect the way the ques are, but its still a divided community and that alone is bad for new players.
