Some pointers
you can take long range pot shots that a gausapult wouldn't risk as you have no ammo. this is very good as you can quickly learn ranges and learn how to hit moving targets without worrying about ammo.
use your speed to maintain distance and breaks to cooldown.
learn to fire into the close brawling mechs from a 100m. things generally reach this point and learning to wait for a clear shot and an alpha strike are essential to avoid team damage.
I will add mor tips later.
FYI it has a 1.1 heat efficiency in the mechwarrior lab
Some play and strategy tips Remember each match is a meal the assaults are your meat the heavies and mediums are your vegetables and the lights are your gravy. it is nice to get some gravy and chew on some meat but eating your vegetables first is a good idea and there are always lots of vegetables;-)
you are fairly quick at 74kph use it to get to good sniping spot and let loose with your PPCs use ranging shots to judge how far to lead the target the keep up a stream of alternate fire once you get the heat warning back off unless you have a clear shot one stationary mech. use cover to cooldown and speed to relocate to a different spot to shoot from. returning g to the same sniping spot is usually deadly for you as the enemy will normally have a bead on it. If no one returned fire then you can return but be careful. during this period of the battle you should be taking shots on any mech you can see, you don't have any ammo take advantage of this the experience will help you learn quickly to lead shots for more damage. ( I find it tasks me a game or two to get back into the groove with this mech if I have been playing something else. so persevere and you should find you long range hit rate will improve. once the game reaches the mid range point move to a position to support fire into combat but remember to check your fire until you have a clear shot. easiest shot are on a circling mech when they are either coming towards you or away from you. if your team is getting mobbed and you can see a large group of enemies unleash into the enemy group you will hit targets and help but it won't be as focused as you would like. when firing into a brawl try to get to an elevated position and fire from there. you have arm mounted main guns try to use them to minimize the risk of friendly fire. being chased and what to do
if they are much faster try to head to your own team while using your 'LL to defend your self. if they are around your speed torso twist to face them and use your speed to move away while letting loose. to do this you have to move at an angle to them once you reach high heat torso twist to rake some shots in your rear armour and then all the way around to shoot them again you will have to turn to bring your guns to bear. so you will be moving in a zig zag formation. this helps reduce enemy accuracy. If they are slower than you try to kept them out side of 300 M as they most probably have some short range weapons. this decision-making should be judge on the mech and what you can see them firing.
