I have a suggestion for a map that would be interesting from a gameplay perspective as well as giving the mapmakers a chance to be visually creative. The map is set on a planet with no atmosphere and very close to its star, where if a mech is exposed to sunlight it has very high heat exposure (similar to the caldera on Caustic Valley) while those in the shade cast by hills, rock formations, maybe a few structures, etc. have relatively low heat exposure (perhaps similar to Forest Colony Snow). The concept would be that areas in the open are both exposed to enemy fire and make it difficult to return fire, necessitating careful movement and making scouts more valuable to reveal enemy positions. Caves, narrow canyons or valleys in the shade would provide routes of movement without heat exposure and will of course be contested by larger mechs. Obviously the thermal values can be tweaked.
A final possible feature to complement the large swings in temperature would be the possibility of dramatic high dynamic range lighting between the two areas, with some areas so dark that they require night vision while open areas are very bright until high dynamic range adjustments kick in. That is, running out of a dark cave will be blinding for a second or two, even with night vision off.
