In Wot once you research and purchase a weapon, if it can be used on other tanks, all it takes is equipping it because it belongs to you already.
...

This is false. While in World of Tanks certain tanks are capable of mounting the same guns, to have that gun mounted to both tanks at the same time requires you to buy the gun twice. For example, my Ferdinand and my JagdTiger can mount the same 128mm, but mounting the one gun I have to the Ferdinand, I am required to buy another to place in my inventory to mount onto the JagdTiger. I would expect that MWO will operate the same way based on Paul's walk-through. He did not have any of the weapons he wanted to use waiting in his inventory, and as a result had to purchase them.

Unlike WOT, It looks each slot = configuration/loadout. Rather than a slot = mech/tank. Let me explain.
In the current build he pays for everything, base chassis, weapons. He is not unlocking them but buying them.
In Wot once you research and purchase a weapon, if it can be used on other tanks, all it takes is equipping it because it belongs to you already.

In this picture you see a "Hammer" and "Hammer 2", same base mech having to be purchased for each slot, then equipped, again purchasing the weapons, even duplicate types you've purchased previously.

Each slot is a mech that you have purchased. Not a configuration. Not a loadout. A mech. If you have 2 hunchbacks, it's because you bought 2 hunchbacks. Maybe one's an HBK-4G and the other is HBK-4P. Maybe they are both HBK-4Gs because you are just that crazy. (Or maybe there is a charge for customizing a mech and you want to switch back and forth between two customized HBK-4Gs and it ended up being cheaper to just buy two.)

Players will have an inventory of items. In the video and whatnot items probably had to be purchased because he didn't have any in his inventory. They may not have even implemented it yet, but it's described in the developer blogs. If you have 5 medium lasers, you have 5 medium lasers. If you have 3 on your Jenner, and want to have 3 on your Cicada, you'll have to purchase one more for your Cicada. You aren't repurchasing items you've already bought.
