According to Paul's post the gauss rifle will be getting more fragile with a tendency to explode "after the armor surrounding it has been removed".
However, THROUGH ARMOR critical hits happen all the time. I was in a match today when my gauss rifle was knocked out even though I had intact armor still showing on all sections of my mech.
IF the gauss rifle is made more fragile ... with the current level of through armor critical hits ... then you may see a lot more gauss rifles destroying mechs BEFORE the armor has been removed than you might expect.
Ammo only takes up one critical slot at a time ... I also don't know how many hit points a ton of ammo has or how much damage is required to cause an ammo explosion. However, if gauss rifles are made much more susceptible to explosion than ammo considering the number of critical slots they take then I can easily see this feature make the weapon unusable.
Anyway, I would just like to submit a plea that this feature be properly play-tested on your test servers before being released to the live servers so that it is properly balanced when released.
