Anyone that's looking for a change of pace and would like a medieval version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein/Enemy Territory, one of the rising new games on steam for a whopping 25 bucks is Chivalry Medieval Warfare. It's online only (offline with bots, but meh), has dynamic objectives (instead of raising a flag to capture the village, you literally torch it and kill the filthy peasants while the other team tries to stop you), and it's minimal UI and Friendly Fire make it a nice game for serious gamers. Official servers are capped at 32 but modded servers top out at 64 players. There's a few game modes, about 60 weapons, and around 8 maps right now.

Studying medieval history ruins games like this for me completely (War of the Roses falls under this too), which is too bad.

This is set in a fantasy universe as the developers wanted to model the game after Hollywood style medieval combat. They were upfront about making no attempt to match this to history. The skins loosely resemble European and Arabian armor, and the weapons are based on real ones but obviously not all would have been around at the same time. How are you able to play any game in that case if you're unable to suspend your disbelief? There's no warfare game out there that accurately portrays the reality of the conflict of any era because it would be an incredibly boring and one-sided experience as most of them were.
War of the Roses was just simply not a good game the way they implemented it. The fact that Chivalry ended up more realistic from a combat perspective was actually a little funny.
