So, we know that down the road, one of the defining things that the devs want to include in this game is the community warfare aspect, where players battle over different planets. I think this is a great idea.
However, think about that - Battling over planets - we're talking very different biomes for tens if not hundreds of worlds that they'll let us fight over. Some worlds may be lush and full of rainforests, while others may be harsh desert worlds, and others still devoid of atmosphere and exposed to the depths of space...
...but so far, the focus has been on really big, thought out maps. That's actually very fun to play on right now, but the rate at which they're being released is very slow, and they feel like areas that should be specific to one world, rather than templates that can be used for countless star systems.
I'd like to suggest that MWO start opting for more generic maps that can be cycled for each kind of world. For example, Forests 1 through 5, Lunar 1-3, Mesa Desert 1-5... that sort of thing. That way, based on the world terrain types specific to that planet can be randomized. For example, Tharkad might have Arctic Biomes, Alpine Biomes, (Coniferous) Forest Biomes, or Tundra Biomes - with one large urban map for "Endgame" battles, whereas a planet like Hesperus II might sport a knock-off of Caustic Valley, Desert Biomes, Mesa and Canyon biomes, and maybe since it's a very famous factory world, have a map set entirely in an underground industrial tunnel system.
So to re-iterate, the maps that we have now are fun - really fun - but I just don't think that having a tiny handful of maps will be appropriate when Community Warfare kicks in.
