For a 12v12, map dependent of course

Lance 1-

2 ravens
2 Catapults

Lance 2-
4-awesome

Lance 3
2-Awesomes
2- Atlas

Ravens are scouts-either spread out with an awesome following each for recon or paired with no awesomes

4-6 awesomes as heavy hitters from the flanks- as a group of 4- flankers---if there are 6 awesomes then two groups of 3

Atlas and catapults together as defenders and fire support

I really cant see the tactics and strategy being to much different the WOT. There will be arty with mechs scouting for them, a flanker group or pack, and heavies in defense. Now dont get me wrong, differntly stratgies will work depending on enemy make up and map.

I fully expect that one or two teams will throw in a mad rush to capture the base, with the fastest mechs from time to time. and of course my favorite on a map with a time limit--throw two scouts out to either side--rest of the team waits at base until the scouts spots the enemy main attack force, then the rest of team hauls *** to the opposite side of the map and sprints past any defenders to capture the base

the qq that ensues is always delecious

Ok you guys have convinced me to play (even though the list is definately short on heavy and assualt class mechs).

Knight Lance: Commando, Dragon, Dragon, Catapult
Bishop Lance: Jenner, Centurion, Catapult, Atlas
Rook Lance: Hunchback, Katapult (2K), Awesome, Atlas

Deployment:
Commando (Knight) and Jenner (Bishop) probe deep into enemy territory to provide indirect firing solutions for Knight and Bishop lance. Should and opening present itself these two are responsible for striking directly at the enemy base.

Knight Lance is highly mobile with good speed and LRM capabilities. They are responsible for baiting and harrassing enemy lances. As the battle evolves and ammo depletes they will fall back to base, replacing Rook lance. Knight relies on mobility to stay ahead of heavier lances and firepower to overcome scout lances.

Bishop Lance is the backbone, deploying mid battlefield between Knight and Rook (LZ), they are able to provide LRM support in either direction. Bishop must be ready to fallback to support Rook during a base attack as well as coordingate pincer maneuvers with Knight.

Rook Lance is a slow moving heavily armed and armored unit. Initially responsible for protecting the LZ/base while Knight and Bishop soften the enemy units. Then advance the line as damaged/depleted units fall back.
________________

Against lighter, faster Companies, Knight and Bishop will advance quickly to the enemy base, leaving Rook to gaurd the LZ.

Against an all-in Assault Company, Knight and Bishop will provide flanking missile support as Rook engages head on. while the scouts seek opportunities in the enemy base or provide targeting resolutions as necessary.

Scout/Skirmish:
Jenner x4

Strike/Hammer:
Atlas x2
Hunchback x2

Support/Anvil:
Awesome x2
Catapult x2

The Scout/Skirmish alternative is swapping 2 Jenners for 2 Ravens. However, I prefer that all 4 Mechs of that lance have Jumpjets in addition to being fast movers.

Wow, 4 Cicadas, thats a wopping 8 med lasers. Almost as much firepower as 1 Clan Blackhawk. Impresive!

I was thinking half 3C with the PPCs and and half 3M with the Ultra AC5, the combination of extreme range and speed would make them excellent harassers.

I'll call them The Light Pony Lance.

I'm going to be realistic about this, if they don't put in some kind of balancing system:

Lance 1
Awesome
Awesome
Awesome
Awesome

Lance 2
Awesome
Awesome
Awesome
Awesome

Lance 3
Catapult K2
Catapult K2
Catapult K2
Raven

3 agile snipers, 8 of the most heavily armed/armored battlemechs in the IS and a dedicated recon 'mech to tell them where to point their guns. Possibly swapping a Catapult K2 to a second Raven, or making a K2 into a makeshift recon 'mech in the event the Raven dies.

Awesomes could be PPC, ER PPC, Large Laser or any mix of those.

Dream all you want about varied weapons and weight, but unless there are restrictions, you know this will outright destroy anything except perhaps a team swapping Awesomes for Atlas.

But what about our speed and-
38 PPCs.

But my 'mech is diverse for any situ-
38 PPCs.

I will outrange you with my AC2s and-
We'll catch up. Then 38 PPCs. 39 if we stick one on a Raven.

There is certainly a lot that can be accomplished with a lot of firepower and a lot of range. However, the Awesome is slow, and it does have a very high level of heat generation. If the only objective was to hold a base, then this is the perfect company. But if there are ANY other objectives, this company could run into a lot of trouble. Hilly terrain? Faster battlemechs with pilots that know how to use terrain can close that gap far too quickly for your company to blow them away. (Besides, it is difficult for anyone to score consistant hits on a well-piloted Commando or Jenner at range over flat terrain, let alone any battlefield with obstacles) City fighting? Your company is whittled down to nothing in half an hour. Or if the company does find itself in a position where line of sight is only good for 200 meters, an enemy company with scout mechs and LRMs will rain fire on the much too slow Awesomes until they are softened up enough to be taken head-on.

Firepower is certainly useful, as is range. But I have a feeling that this game will revolve much more around speed and strategy.

I think the perfect lance for any situation breaks down like this....

Any 4 'Mechs, so long as they are piloted by members of the 1st Blackburn's Raiders.

urban map:

assault lance: 4 atlas primes with lrm 20 swapped for additional srm6 and heat sinks
heavy lance : 1 dragon with upgrade to ppc (grand dragon) and srms, 2 centurions with ac 10s and srms and med lasers, 1 catapult with max srms and med lasers
med lance: 4 hunchbacks, your choice of ac 20 or swayback configs.
scout lance: 4 urbanmechs (you know its gonna be in game, pauls a dev ffs)

large open map:

assault lance: 2 atlas variants with large laser arms, gauss in torso, lrm 20 with artemis and spare ammo. 2 awesome ppc boats.
heavy lance: 1 grand dragon (ppc) with lrm with artemis. 2 catapults with artemis lrms, 1 dragon with spotter gear for the catapults.
med lance: another assault lance like the first one, meds suck on open maps! :P
light lance: ravens, since you all had to have ravens, it has to be all ravens.

For a general purpose defensive deployment I’d choose

Lance 1: Atlas x2, Dragon x2
Lance 2: Awesome, Atlas x2, Raven
For a company add:
Lance 3 Atlas, Dragon, Catapult with arrow IV x2
This team is designed for firepower and flexibility.

All variants are prime configuration.
This company is designed to achieve the highest possible win/loss ratio in any likely scenario, aginst another company of 12 mechs. Of course it will not beat 12 hunchies in a city, or 12 awesomes on a cold, flat planet.

love atlas scout lance :P

to me this looks bring atlases and you win

For what we've seen in 3049 tech
Command-Atlas Awesome Awesome Catapult
Battle- Awesome, Hunchback, Centurion, Catapult
Recon- Centurion, Jenner, Jenner, Raven

Commands all about firepower and protection
Battle's a mix of brawling and fire support, equipped about equally for both.
Recon The Centurion is slow, however it can out range the others, offering limited long range support, as the Jenners and Ravens scout/harass larger foes AC 20's are big and nasty, but an AC10's got better range, and lower heat...

Four Jenners. Replace up to two Jenners with Cicada 3Cs.

Commence harassment. Win.

1 x Cicada ( scout )
1 x Centurion ( intermediate fire sport )
1 x K2 - Catapult ( light attack )
1 x Dragon ( command control / indirect fire support )

That would be my choice ( none of them would be stock )

I'm afraid the 4xAtlas in varied configurations will be too powerful, but if I had to make a fun 4-mech team, I'd make it 3 Catapults and one Jenner with a NARC :3
Whoever gets tagged is turned into scrap metal ASAP !

(Of course if the enemies do manage to get close the 4 mechs will have to make a run for it)
