In this way, the spread hits the entire mech, allowing crits to be very likely, and extending the effective range out to a range that the LBX-10 is supposed to be able to reach (540m IIRC).
Until this happens, the LBX-10 is just going to be a close range shotgun that is only advantageous over the AC10 for saving a ton of weight and being cooler firing.

2. because it's much harder to miss your target with an lbx-10
3. nobody really uses LBX10s anyway
Its stilll a great weapons for frozen city, or river city close range brawling. 2x LBX-AC 10s to the face after stepping around the corner and coming face to face with another atlas is enough to ruin his day.

I love this idea too but if the netcode cant even get lasers to hit properly you think a proximity flak system like that would hold up?

It handles missiles fine, can't see why this would be different. Especially since the laser problem is you telling the server where you want to fire, causing a ping delay, whereas the LBX-10 would be you firing, and the server saying 'oh yeah a mech was within 5-10 meters of it, i'll direct those pellets to it'. It'd probably be pretty simple.
