It's not going to be long now until we can have TRUE BattleTech LARP.

Real Mechs are possible...and wouldn't being able to control one be awesome? Even to just walk around in it, even if, at least at first, it didn't have any true military value. To pull back the throttle, to take that first step forward... I think it's a dream for a lot of us MechWarrior/BattleTech fans. I know I want it to happen and it's why I support MechBuilders (check my sig). We're getting there, but it's an expensive and time consuming endeavor, but one very well worth it.

What i wouldn't give to show all the racecar drivers in the world i can run faster than they can drive...When i'm inside a Firemoth with a larger engine, additional heatsinks and a MASC system that is.

That's a neat control system, they have there. The rest of the design is awful.

I've always thought about how a 'Mech could run as fast as the TROs say they can (your Fire Moth, for example). That would have to be one hell of an advanced leg setup, not to mention a computer advanced enough to track the terrain that quickly so the 'Mech doesn't faceplant when it approaches a ten-degree incline. I imagine the first 'Mechs would be, just like in BT lore, slow and relatively simple like the Mackie. In fact, I believe we can say that leg movement and speed will be the only real obstacles to creating a 'Mech, even if we do find a suitable power supply. If advancements have already been made in this area, then I am unaware.

The carbon nanotube muscles that have just been invented contract 4,000 times faster than human muscle, are 30 times stronger and many times stronger than steel. To put things in perspective, a 6 ton T. rex could run 25 mph, so if its legs were replaced with cyborg versions using nanotube muscles it would be able to run 750 mph if it were not for air resistance, stress on the skeleton and the fact that it wouldn't be able to slow down. So, as far as mechs are concerned, they wouldn't have a problem going faster than a modern tank and most wheeled vehicles. The limiting factors would be inertia and the human pilot's reaction time. The latter problem would be mitigated by advanced computers with vastly more processing power than current systems.

I want to be able to randomly transform into a robot too... ;)

Still... I think the exhibition center transforming into giant robot has that one beat.
