When it comes to Ballistic weapons, damage values per ton of ammo are roughly the same, but the cost of ammo is exponentially increased and penalizes in a way that is a detriment to the rearming system, and does not encourage diverse builds.

Table of Truth:

AC2
  • Damage per Shot: 2
  • Shots per Ton: 75
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 150
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 975
AC5
  • Damage per Shot: 5
  • Shots per Ton: 30
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 150
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 4,500

UAC5
  • Damage per Shot: 5
  • Shots per Ton: 25
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 125
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 9000

AC10
  • Damage per Shot: 10
  • Shots per Ton: 15
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 150
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 6000

AC20
  • Damage per Shot: 20
  • Shots per Ton: 7
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 140
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 10,003

LB 10-X
  • Damage per Shot: 10
  • Shots per Ton: 15
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 150
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 19,995

Gauss Rifle
  • Damage per Shot: 15
  • Shots per Ton: 10
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 150
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 20,000

Machine Gun
  • Damage per Shot: .04
  • Shots per Ton: 2000
  • Potential Damage per Ton: 80
  • Cost of Ammo Per Ton: 2,000

I tried. Suggest anything that ups LRM ammo costs in spite of complexity and logistics issues, and you're facing a true uphill battle.

In terms of ballistics, due to the 75% free they implement, rearming is a tiny blip on the radar, and not worth most people's consideration. I do like that the prices are much lower per ton than missiles, although I think they could be lower still, have their origins in tabletop.

Gauss would have to reflect a lot of precision machining to justify pricing. LB-10X is just broken like the weapon itself, I mean we're talking inaccurate shotgun rounds here, not proper submunitions. This isn't like missiles, where military grade electronics are needed to withstand high G acceleration on launch
