Hi,

In the long run the matchmaker will take skill into account. Fine.

However, in the short term, some folks are unhappy with the 8vs8 queue and would rather roflstomp PUGs. The main reason I think this happens is that you end up with 4 man group teams against 8 independent players without coms.

Suggestion: Could the matchmaker be modified to preferentially place groups on opposing teams?

i.e have a group queue and single player queue. Create matches by either grabbing the next 2 groups from the group queue assigning one group to each team and filling the rest of the slots with folks from the single queue ... or forming matching by drawing all 16 players from the single queue. The 8v8 queue could remain separate. I think this might go a long way towards making matches feel more balanced since folks would either drop in matches with groups on both sides or ones with none.

The matchmaker would only need to keep track of the number of folks in each queue and if there aren't enough numbers in one or the other it could fall back to placing more groups on each team before filling out with folks from the single queue.

A queue timer could be added to the group queue such that if no other group comes up within a time limit then the group could be dropped into a match without other groups. However, this situation could only arise when the group queue is essentially empty ... which hopefully would not be that often.

It gets somewhat more difficult to balance mech weight classes in this context ... however, player coordination seems to be a more powerful balancing factor than specific mechs.
