What would you guys say to melee capable mechs like these?

Meh. I'm sure that a revision to the collision mechanic wouldn't be all that difficult to implement. Hopefully it'll be worked out soon. Yes, I know the removal of the collisions was a temporary one. Rather than make a hasty judgment of my comment, why not give me the benefit of the doubt?

We used to have melee.
Only charge attacks no punches or kicks.
But it was still one of the best things MWO added to the mechwarrior name
