What are the benefits/detriments?
What is my first step?
I'm a fairly new player, but have managed to make a decent amount of cbills in pugs, but would actually like to do more than grind. I have a yen-lo, aws-9m, hbk-4p, as7-k, and cplt-c4 in my lab, all modified (still haven't found the mech I like the best, but leaning towards yen-lo and awesome).
any thoughts?

First off, if you haven't already it's worth dropping a post in the Hiring Hall at the top of this forum as a lot of corps will read your post and reply if they think they measure up to what you're looking for.
At the moment the main benefit is not being constrained to only fighting in PUGs, although more will come out later when features are implemented.
Apart from that, a search of topics in this section with specific keywords might help you, such as US, EU, CASUAL, HARDCORE and others based on faction names if you're into that and anything else you're looking for. The trick is findign a group that has the atmosphere you want along with a similar playstyle to yours that has active members playing when you want to play. There are a plethora of options in this section of the forum, so having a read through some of the topics and noting down the kinds of things people mention that are of interest to you would also help to narrow down your search before you post in the Hiring Hall, because then you can mention exactly what you're looking for and what you don't want too.
Have fun deciding and good luck in your search!
