just picked up an awesome 9m, and I'm kind of liking it better than the atlas.
I like having limited number of weapons types, and the 9m lets me mount 6 energy and 3 missle.

So far it's been fun, but I have been getting killed alot... I'm a noob, so I attribute this to my lack of pilot skills.

Anyway, here's how I loaded it out, let me know if you have suggestions:

*ER PPC (3)
*streak SRM 2 (2)

*XL engine 360 (I initially thought I'd like to have a 72 kph assault, but so far it hasn't helped much... I easily out manuever an atlas, but doesn't really help with mediums, so I'm probably going to drop down to a lower engine)
Standard armor

*Endo-Steel

*std heat sinks (12)

right now my firepower is at 40 in mech lab

I've tried to follow some of the threads on PPCs, but still haven't figured it out... is the best energy weapon to mount?

Should I mount a Sh*t ton of medium pulse lasers?

Firepower looks good, although the XL engine worries me, if you lose a side torso, you die.

Have you tried switching to a standard engine? Where do you have your armor focused?

I think you'd be severely limited by heat.
12 single heatsinks is certainly insufficient. Even for medium pulse lasers.
Might be worth changing to double heatsinks if you're planning to use that 360XL

ARmor is focused on in the front torso.

just for sh!ts and g!ggles, I think I'm going to try the xl385..would at least be interesting to see an assult mech running around at 80kph!

I added a few more heat sinks, dropped the ppcs, and replaced them with 6 medium pulse, and ams, and an xl385. As soon as I stop getting the "server connection lost" message, I'm going to try this out.

OK--- so current load out is (and by the way, I think I may have miscounted heat sinks in my OP... I was actually counting them and not going from the "details" pane):

Medium pulse (5)
streak SRM (2)
AMS (1)
Heat Sinks (21)
Engine: xL 385

Armor: I have the stock allocation.
I'd like to add more to the center/right/left torso. Currently I'm runngin:

CEnter torso: 60/100
Right Torso: 48/68
Left Torso: 48/68

But I can't increase, it says I have o avbl.
I have tons of armor in stock, and I'm 4 tons shy of my make weight... How can I add more armor?
Even if I dallocate armor from another area (say, legs), I can't re-allocate to the torso.

just played this in a pug, and it is amazingly fun. moves faster than heavies and most mediums, and the 5 pulse lasers are awesome at close range. Ugraded to ferro-fib, and had to drop my heat sinks to 19, so I can only get 2 shots of all 5 pulse before shut down, but then I just switch to streaks.

Right, Center and left torso give you a pool between front and back so you can have 100 in your center torso front and back same with left and right i.e. center 80 rear center 20 = 100
