I was thinking the best way to beat AKF'ers is to stop giving out minimum player/mech XP for loses. Mech XP should be 1 or 2 points for each point of damage done. Spotting XP should remain as it is. Killing another mech should award huge C-Bill bonus and at least 200 Mech XP; also, you would need to reduce the C-Bill award for losses; with no damage done, no spotting bonuses, and no capping attempts to 10,000 at max. Do this, and at least AFK'ers wouldn't be gaining anything to be dead wieght to their team. However, if someone genuinely DC's in a match because of an internet issue, they should not receive any reward(unless they have damage, kills, spotting, or capping time to their credit), or any repair bill. For example, add a function to the quit game/match button to detect player initiated DC's; if, they quit before the end of the match, or their mech is dead, they foot their own repair bill. There is at least 1 AFK guy per match, heck I've been in matches with 3 or 4 AFK'ers; and it is obscenely frustrating.
