Many of us started playing with a game of 31st Century Combat.

Or maybe you started with MechWarrior 3?

Nope, not nooby enough to have started with either of those newfangled Johnny-Come-Lately things.

The only reason those games box arts show the Madcat is simply because those games are focused on the Clans in particular and IS tech in general in MW2/3/4 is rather lacking and quite useless. Every other box with BT/MW iconography was usually the Warhammer until FASA got sued for it. Using the Madcat was really kind of a fancy new fad thing more than it was the most iconic mech. Besides I wouldn't be surprised if all Clan stuff was AI controlled and we had to fight them in a raid like mission style. Just look at every AI anything. AI opponents need to be allowed to cheat, exploit or be given vastly superior stuff to beat your average human player and making Clan tech AI only is the perfect excuse.

I say the Mackie would be the most iconic, but then, I'm old fashioned like that.

I have a sneaking suspicion that most of you don't know what the word "iconic" means.

To someone new to the genre it's still the first image you think of.

I know what was the most "iconic" mech in the series before the Madcat was even an idea on a drawing board, though. :P

It does crack me up that "started playing BT related games almost 20 years ago" constitutes "new to the genre."

Sorry, 20 years have passed since the clan invasion. 20 years outweighs the 5 years before it.

How is it not? It's on the cover of Mechwarrior 2 Mechwarrior 3 and Mechwarrior 3050 on the snes.

Tell me which Mech you think is the most iconic then?

Speaking as someone who has been playing this "game" since it was called "BattleDroids", the most "iconic" mechs... aren't "seen" anymore. The Warhammer would probably be one of the most iconic to those of us who have been around on the TT for a while:

After that would be the Atlas:

And then, of course, the Marauder:

Nevertheless, to answer your question as it HAS been answered already, THE CLANS AREN'T IN THE INNER SPHERE YET. It's late 3049 right now. The video game titles you listed take place AFTER the Clan Invasion, we are BEFORE the Clan Invasion right now. The Clanners are out in the periphery smacking around Houseless fools out there. The first IS invasion doesn't take place for a few months.

So no matter HOW "iconic" you think the MadCat (or other clan mechs for that matter) are, they are not arriving BEFORE the clans get here.

Props for the Mackie reference.

I think FASA just liked trotting out the MadCat because it's so similar to the unseen Marauder.

Sorry, but The Daishi (Dire Wolf) is the one that is known to cause InnerSphere Pilots to start wearing "Depends" Undergarments

Further, the person who made the statement about the mad cat being iconic was clearly referring to the MechWarrior games, not tabletop. To him, and people like him, you might as well be talking about unicorns and easter bunnies.

Perhaps, but even "Mechwarrior" was a tabletop before it ever graced a PC.

And you know by context that I was clearly referring to the MechWarrior video games, so you're just intentionally being obtuse. :P

The reason you can't have a madcat yet is because clan tech is PGI golden goose for the future. These old fashioned freeborns just aren't willing to admit that.

Grabbed from a friend's old blog. He always talked about the Art differences between FASA's work and the "borrowed" Mechs from Harmony Gold and the others.

For me, the most iconic mech is the Bushwacker. It had a sleek Marauder-esque cockpit and looked both elegant and practica. The "X"-shaped LRM5 riding over the left shoulder is unique compared to all the other "box style" LRMs.

But yeah, I think designs that have the 'marauder' or 'catapult' look are the ones that appeal people the most, visually speaking, so naturally the Timberwolf quickly became FASA's poster-child for BT and MW.
