It is not hard to imagine the result of PGI implementing a debilitating Heat Scale, as per TT. Players would quickly migrate to the lesser Heat based weapons and load as many as possible. The mixed load out would be a thing of the past and those Mechs that currently operate @ 100% efficiency, while running the heat Bar @ +80% (totally doable) would suffer to the point of having to abandon those "hotter" builds.

The current Mech set have enough issue getting quickly debilitated by the enemy when under fire. Adding in another form of punishment (ie: a brutal (as per the TT rules) via a Heat Scale will not advance the game forward. Nor would upping the DHS to 2.0 to compensate. Better the devil you know.. :)

Heat in this game is the great equalizer. Ruin that balance and the game withers quickly. I still run under the assumption that a Match should last a finite time, the more the Heat scale is fooked with, the closer we get to self annihilation.

Other than some "Cheese" builds, it is Heat that keeps the players in check. Force players to build and fight with Heat as a guide or simply forget it.

I would prefer to not play Alpha Strike Online thanks...

Looks good.

How many heat sinks?

(BTW - did you read in that old Weapon Balance and Heat System thread that the sheet is now useable in Google Docs: https://docs.google....lkMVRhcXc#gid=0)

19 DHS, yes I saw that you made it for Google Docs. Thanks for that, but I kinda decided to give up on the math stuff, I'll just try it out in game instead and fraps the evidence :-p.

Swap out the LBX for an AC10 or U/AC5 and you're looking good.

Ya, I'm going to try a U/AC5 just to see how that goes, but...

I am going to go ahead and just disagree with you on the LB10X...That thing is a MONSTER when it comes to crit seeking. I've never seen anything with internals exposed that survived more than 2 LB10X shots, most go down from the first shot you can get on them <300m.

It is for that reason alone that I made an Atlas as such:
Atlas-DDC - 'Shotgun Betty'
2x LB10X (LT)
3x SRM 6's (RT)
2x Large Laser

The LB10X performed much better than I expected, the only thing I dislike about it is the short range. I may have to try out that loadout w/ECM.

That being said energy weapons still could use some loving, but I don't think DHS need buffing, certainly not to 2.0.

I think it's underrated for brawling. If people use SRMs for brawling, they can use LB10-X. But their range is really... meh.

If they wanted to discourage energy boats, why do we eve have a Jenner, Cicada, Hunchback and an Awesome variant that has only energy hard points? Is that some kind of trap for people that like energy builds, so they have to gimp themselves if they want to play what they like?

no what I mean is, people would buy mainly mechs who have 3 variants with mainly energy weapons then. which means, we would mainly see awesomes and some hunchbacks and jenners then, instead of the good mix we have now. you would see very few centurions and commandos then, and significantly less catapults. the game would be simply less interesting because you'd encounter less different builds as enemies.
