I think it is safe to assume SSRMs are not going to be nearly as effective when ECM comes out. A lot of Players will be testing ECM and so there will be very few situations to use Streaks IMO.

That is why i need some help.

My current COM-1D

Quote

XL Engine 210
FF, ES
2x ML
2x SSRM, 2x Ammo
2x STD HS
Max armor (balance front and back)

Why not just trade up for an SRM6? Or two SRM4s and 1 ton of ammo? You'll do a lot more damage.

If you can deal with not being able to hunt down Jenners as easily, switch to normal SRMs. Learn to joust. You'll be able to kill Atlases. And when you get a lucky shot off on a light, watching all of their limbs explode is so satisfying.

SRMs are a man's weapon. Streaks should stay in underwear.

Switch to a COM-2D mount ECM and set it to Counter?

Lately I've been mounting large lasers on my Commandos; mostly to have something to strike back with against the Streak scourge. And it's grown on me. So why not try a large laser and a SRM-6?

Oh, and drop that FF. You save 0.67 tons and it doubles your armour repair costs.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the XL210, I'd rather save some weight and go with the XL195. I can still go 138.5 with speed tweak, and the saved weight sure comes in handy.

Why don't you stuff the SRM ammo in the head. A Commando is pretty hard to headshot, and better than an even easier to explode XL engine.

By storing ammo in the head it's 3 hits, rather than one ammo explosion.

Commando's head also has better armor than most other places aside from legs.

It doesn't really matter where you put the ammo. If it goes, you're dead. And since we're running an XL, if the side torsos go, you're dead. If the head goes, you're dead.

Moral of the story? Don't get hit. Speed is life.

Only those willing to sacrifice the tonnage to fit their precious ECM will even do so. and even less will be willing to actually get within 200m of you to cancel your lock. Remember that your lock is only negated when you close to within about 180-200m you have a 90-70m area which your streaks will still smack around said ECM mech and you can always lead them into another friendly mech to dispose of them. The effects of ECM against SSRM are less of a disadvantage as it will be to those using LRMs.

If this is indeed the way ECM is going to work, then that just seems exceptionally silly.

Why not just double or even triple the time it takes to lock onto a mech with ECM.

That just seems like the most effective way to do it with out making some weapons obsolete or useless against ECM.

ECM mechs should take advantage of this and use hit and run tactics to take advantage of the longer lock on times as much as possible, but at the same time, ECM shouldn't be a CURE-ALL against streaks like it's shaping up to be.
