AAA titles cost a *lot* to develop.

No sane developer would release a game in this state continuing to prioritize development on revenue streams if they weren't hurting for cash. The fact that IGP, a privately owned publishing company, announced $5 million in earnings is another tell that the publisher was looking for more investors/placating current investors. There's no other reason to do that other than optics. $5 million is a good amount of money, but I'd be willing to bet that wouldn't even cover salaries and burden rates for PGI's 55 employees for one year.

I think you are overestimating how much they are paying their employees.

Junior level software engineers make between 22-40K it's only once you have years in the industry that salaries start to get much larger.

There will also be a lot of support staff in that 45 group. Typically 5-10% of employees are support like administration or accountants.
