The system specs have been released, and they're surprisingly low key, requiring only a dual-core machine. That said, dual-core is very much the minimum spec, and "It’s obvious that a Quad core system is the key", writes President Russ Bullock.

So does this mean the game with actually utilize all 4 cores? I have a quad q9300 2.5 and a core 2 duo 3.16 and wondering if it'll really make a difference. Reading forums people are saying it doesn't utilitize all 4 cores so why would I say quad core systems are the key or is it a marketing thing.

The one system with quad is custom build but MB only supports 4gigs of mem total. So I was thinking if it's worth the effort to replace the power supply, cpu in my optiplex 780 that has the duo 3.16 in it. Any suggestion? And no I dont want to buy a i3,i5.i7.

I do not plan on buying a new system. What I have available is a quad 2.5ghz , duo 3.16ghz and if push comes to shove I guess I could put it on my server which has two quad core 2.33 ( 8 cores ). Since Cryengine 3 says it'll support up to 8 cores which is my best option?

Yes. One of the devs/company ppl said it runs better on his quad at home because the crytek 3 engine likes four cores, so yes.

Run this http://mycryengine.com/ sdk to check your current system against the engines single player mode. My current core 2 duo with 4 gigs and a decent card got 5fps.

If your going to upgrade then yes. Buying anything less then a quad is pointless and i'm not even sure if it's possible anymore.

Ok I think when I get home I'll put the bigger PSU and Quad in the Optiplex 780 Mini-Tower.. Now the questions is with the MB handle the quad... According to http://i.dell.com/si...-tech-guide.pdf it should but the current CPU is 65watt and the Quad is 95watt. Should I be able just to drop it in (yes bios is updated to newest ) and it'll go or do I have to mess with voltage settings?

id up the power supply as well.

anyone that upgrades to a quad core or higher... make sure its running at at least 3.0 GHz. Anything less and youre waisting your money as the game even on a quad core under 3.0 GHz will still run slow.

I believe that Core i3's are dual cores.

OP, get an i5. They are relatively cheap. dont get the ****k versions because they cost more because they are for over clockers (and im assuming you dont want to do that)

Yes, a quad core is worth the upgrade. Like Kittygrinder said you can get an i5 for relatively cheap.

Ah hell, if you want 6 cores, why not just kick it up a notch to the Intel Xeon 8 Core?

Anyways, it really depends on what you are doing with that computer. If it is just for casual, maybe an hour a night gaming, then just go with an i5, it's a HELLUVA lot cheaper. Plus, that's what I am rolling with right now, and it plays Battlefield 3 quite well, with a <50 bucks AMD graphics card and 6GB RAM.

If you are a serious gamer, I would recommend going to Digital Storm, they are the best gaming PC company ever. My cousin and 2 of my buddies each got themselves a Digital Storm computer, and aside from the hardware being the deal of the century, their customer service is, well, you just won't find it anywhere else.

I was originally going to try and build my own laptop, but the hell with that, I totaled up all the parts, and just these things:
  • i7 @ ~3.00 GHz, 6MB Cache
  • Nvidia 660M
  • 8GB RAM
  • 3D monitor and case with webcam built in
JUST those 4 things, and the software to go with it cost me 1K ALONE. At Digital Storm, I went and customized my laptop the way i wanted it, and it came about to a little above @1,800. If you want to see what I will order:
I was originally going to get only 8GB RAM, but then I looked at the prices of their RAM, and for only 41 bucks, i could DOUBLE my RAM to 16GB. Deal of the century or WHAT??!?!?!??!??? :o

If your building or buying a new PC.

Yes you should get one with a quad or better core CPU. If you have a dual-core all ready. I would wait to see how the game plays before investing big bucks in something new.

Face - Ram is dirt cheap. If your building your own or having a PC built for you, more than 8 is good, but no need to go overboard. The perfomance difference you will see going from 8 to 16 is very very minimal. Most people won't notice any difference. You will probably get more bang for your buck spending that extra $40 on an even better video card. But if both are in your budget, then heck get the better video and the 16gb of ram

Sorry to necro this thread; I was Googling 'Crytek 3 and quad core' and this link was thrown up.

My recent experience:

I've swapped out my Core 2 Duo 8400 @ 3GHz, for a Q6600 o/c to 2.8GHz. The rest of my system is unchanged (WinXP, 4GB RAM, NVidia 560).

This game is now enjoyable. I'm getting consistent and decent (40 - 50-ish) FPS, even in a Charlie Foxtrot.

Prior to this (dual to quad change), I could see 70+ FPS is a quiet part of a map then stutter and pause, in CQ combat, so badly it was unplayable.

Even a modest quad seems to work wonders with MWO.
