The developers should consider adding a Mars desert map for MWO... supported by lore of the BattleTech Universe.

"In the tabletop wargame and fictional universe of BattleTech, Mars is the location of a military academy. Mars was held by the Terran Hegemony and the Star League before its collapse. Afterward it was controlled by the interstellar communication order known as Comstar. After ComStar split into two factions Mars was claimed along with Terra by the Word of Blake during Operation Odysseus. During the Word of Blake's jihad against the rest of the Inner Sphere the mercenary command Wolf's Dragoons launched a failed assault on Mars which resulted in the nuclear scouring of their base planet of Outreach."

But what are we fighting over?

Strategic places such as planets rich in minerals or a long growing season, planets that are politically important (We have always owned Planet X!"), or planets that are near Jumpship recharge points are all fought over.

Simply because it's red doesn't make it worthwhile to fight over. Tho' I do concede that various terrain features (very deep valleys and incredibly high mountains) could make for some very interesting contests.

Well it's the location of an academy. Make a nice starter map/tutorial ground... Especially considering the novelty of the recent landing.

i like this idea, i'd be a fun map :)

btw, mars should technicaly give a boost to cooling efficiecny, although it looks normal, it's cold enough that ice is often frozen carbon dioxide...

What will we be fighting over on the three maps that they've shown us so far? But yeah a Mars or a Mars like planet would make for a very interesting battle field

I'm sure that there'll be a 'red planet' map at some point - I'm glad PGI is taking a 'continually under development' approach to MWO, it really makes the game aces to know that there'll always be something new getting introduced.

The development team can make a desert map based on actual Mars footage from Rovers...

A Mars like planet could be good idea, though I would much rather have canyons, cliffs, dome colony installation, mining installation, so there appears to be a point in fighting for that particular location rather than an empty expanse devoid of interest (given the overwhelming abundance of land with millions of square km on thousands of planets, it makes more sense to conquer a place that has something on it).

Another idea would be an alien jungle that doesnt look like anything we have on earth (its a sci-fi game after all).

In any case Im really, really looking forward to any new map. I hope a new map gets implemented ASAP.

Already a desert map scheduled, maybe as early as next week since the files already seem to be included with the client.

Mars is a major manufacturing centre. That is something worth fighting over.

Since it would be a generic map, it would be likely that the moon is a major mining or manufacturing centre, like Talon.
