Question?
PGI? Did your testers balance the ecm for both pre-mades and pugs?
The reason I am asking is that the problems that seem to be arising balance wise seem to be exacerbated for pugs. That leads me to think that perhaps the testers tested the ecm as a pre-made.
Things I have noticed that throw off balance.
Random ecm drops in game. In other words the game doesn't seem to balance for ecm mechs.
No direct fire mode for LRMS. (I don't use ssrms so I have no clue about them.)
A lack of adequate counter devices.

TAG at the appropriate ranges counter ECM, as well an enemy ECM (toggle to counter) counters ECM.

ECM countering ECM is dumb

That is all really pre-made only options. In pug play you really need the ability to carry something yourself that can counter the ecm and there is nothing as tag is los and too far within max range to be tactically effective.

LRMs will fly to wherever the aimpoint is set at so there is 'direct fire' mode that way.
Counters? TAG and another ECM is a counter. Thing is, the TAG wont share target data to your team if the tag user is inside an ECM bubble.

Err no. Its realistic. ECCM (electronic counter-counter measures) is what the devs call the 2nd mode of the ECM in game.

Two teams under ECM blanket walk past eachother, try to cap enemy bases.
No gameplay apart from the unfortunate defenders getting rolled by 6 mechs they cant detect until they're too close to run/fight.
SSRMS and LRMs rendered practically obsolete now.
PGI Plx consider changing ECM effecticeness, it's OP at the moment, especially if one team has it and the other doesnt.

I disagree that tag or other ecms are a proper counter.
Tag requires teamwork thus not usable for pugs. Tag also requires line of sight and a shorter range which again renders lrms tactically irrelevant.
And ecm would be an effective counter to itself if all mechs could carry it. But as is it is again a pre-made only counter because no lrm boats can carry one.
So there is no counter that a lrm can do on it's own or even reliably if puging.
And are lrms flying to the aim point now or are they still crashing down without a lock?
And if they are firing dumb now are they exploding now without a lock or are they bouncing?

Huh? You flip a switch and you are ECCM instead of ECM.. you don;t have both at same time
Right, but that means that only mechs that carry ECM can COUNTER ECM. It forces people, especially PUGers, into those mechs.
