If teams choose to run that setup, yes, it should be allowed. There are counters to every team setup you can think of.
Just think -- after today's patch we'll have 8v8 premades-only matches that could very well be like this. Or it could be eight Jenners versus eight Atlases. Eight StreakCats versus eight GaussCats.
Thankfully, those who aren't in teams of eight will have the standard matchmaking where matches are balanced by weight class. Can't have eight Jenners versus eight Atlases there. And it's unlikely you'll run into a team like you describe with the standard matchmaking.

IDT that the 8v8 should be balanced by anything other than team choice. The whole point of the system that I can see is to let teams run whatever they want, and let the battlefield sort out what's viable. Cheeseteams will only survive in 8v8 if they're up against rookies or they somehow get a rock/paper/scissors team weak against their specialization. I can't see any full SKat lances living very long against real teams with dedicated LR, or even a 2-man subteam of KatKillers.

lol
You're very funny. Thanks for the laugh.
There WILL be balancing and/or limits. There has to be. With the new prevalence of ECM, lots of previous team setups are now simply out-classed and out-tonned. I have seen many setups with five ECM Atlases and three ECM lights/mediums. Occasionally there will be a non-ECM 'Mech or two thrown in for variety. There will be tonnage limits, or a system similar to Battle Value.

why not add weight classes:
300 tons max
400 tons max
500 tons max
600 tons max
700 tons max
800 tons max
right now it's 800 tons permanently... bleh.
Fill the tonnage however you want. It's like UFC.. you don't HAVE to weigh 170 - but you CAN"T go over 170. That's classic MW style. The ship that drops the mechs had limits - same concept here.
EVEN BETTER - you could run 4 atlas (400tons) vs 4 hunchbacks, 2 lights and 2 heavies - no need to limit it to 8v8. Stick to weight limits. This is classic MW. How many times in the books did you run into a "ok, you get 8 mechs and we get 8 mechs?" never. it has ALWAYS been tonnage.
Any drawbacks to this? I can see the 300 ton series - lights and mediums - CLASSIC MW game. CLASSIC. Maybe throw a cat for support. That would limit atlas to maybe ONE with ECM - 100 tons = 2 hunchbacks = 3 Jenners. And then the atlas would play the MW role - Front Assault while medium mechs flank and heavies support.
You know it's the way to go.

God the more i think about it the better it is. Maybe start with 3 weight classes 300, 450 and 600, heck just ONE aside from the existing - i vote for 300 if just one. Teams would set their weights for a series and go - 300 tons class vs 300 tons. Since there would only a few series, matching wouldn't be an issue. You would get CRAZY variety, fantastic balance;this is the way MW was meant to be played. Especially in the 300 series. Teams would become balanced by default - too many lights would get pummeled by mediums, etc. Still set the 8 player limit.
It would be sweet.
