So I recently bought an RVN-4X Raven, and after a few moderately successful matches using an LRM 5, paired Medium Pulse Lasers, and paired Machine Guns with near-maxed armor and jump jets, i've decided to work towards a different build.

I like the idea of the Raven as an electronic warfare 'mech, so I want to make mine geared towards scouting and spotting. I'm thinking of going with a TAG, a Narc Missile Beacon, and a Beagle Active Probe....but need to also up the engine quite a bit to keep a better speed profile.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an engine that they would recommend, outside of the XL variety?

Your Raven won't be able to use ECM so I suggest thinking of buying the 3L (was it?).

I don't think Narc is worth it. TAG is fine and does Narc's job without weighing too much and requiring ammo. NARC is probably only for the A-1 which can't use TAG due to lack of energy hardpoints. Even then it fires too slow to be worth anything.

Yeah I definitely want to go for the 3L eventually (i'd actually like to work towards all 3 variants so I can get elite skills and such for the chassis). I like TAG, haven't tried NARC yet but i'll try it out before dropping it completely.


Still need help with the engine.

The RVN-3L is the best spotter of all 3, even stock. Highest engine cap, XL, TAG, NARC, BAP and ECM, on a stock mech.

Any engine that goes +100 k/ph should be good, NARC is pretty useless (and quite heavy).
