I recently bought my second mech, a Centurion CN9-A and I am baffled on how the mechanics of armor slots are working. I am trying to use a LRM10 which takes up 2 slots, but when I equipped it, it seems to take up more armor slots than advertised, is there something I am missing? I didn't have these kind of problems with my last mech, the armor slots would move to accommodate the new pieces.... I am baffled right now...

Not Enough Slots, But There Are

Do you have the Artemis upgrade applied? missile weapons with Artemis take up an additional critical slot.
how many crits are free in your left torso? A screenshot would help make this clear to us.
Are you using FF or Endo? do you have dynamic armor/structure slots or non-dynamic armor/structure slots? Dynamic structure slots are white and will move out of the way; non-dynamic slots are amber and cannot move becauase there isn't enough free space for them to move to.

I can't provide a pic right now (servers are down) but I have upgraded the armor, heatsinks, and the case (forgot what its called) but I haven't upgraded to Artemis (I am not really sure what it is for yet). If I take a weapon or something off I will have like 5 slots open, but when I put a 2 slot weapon it, it seems to take up an additional couple of slots or more. I am not sure if there is something I am missing about dynamic/empty slots that I don't understand or what... I have tried to put ammo in one of the available slots and it seems to eat away the other additional slots as well. I didn't have this kind of problem with my last mech, when I put an item in that only takes up 1 slot, it does just that... so I am thinking either a glitch or me not understanding some mechanic of the game...

Not sure if it's a bug or you are just missing something - post a screenshot when you can. Generally, a 2-crit missile launcher will take 3 crits only if it's Artemis-enabled (takes 1 extra crit and 1 extra ton of weight per launcher).

Here are the pics requested: http://imgur.com/a/3C87m
The pics show my load out armament, there are no available slots. I remove the 1 LRM ammo from the head to demonstrate by moving that one item, I get open slots all over my mech...

Here's what you are missing - the armor /structure slots in yellow can't be moved (there's no empty space to move to), same slots in white can be moved (there is at least one empty slot to move to). FF armor and ES structure take 14 slots each. With LRM ammo in place you have no empty space, so every slot occupied by armor/structure is yellow. When you remove ammo, you get one empty slot in the head, so you can move one slot occupied by armor/structure around (it becomes white). In short, if you don't have any slots that say "empty", you have no free space available. If you have one slot that says "empty", you have one crit available. And so on. Slots occupied by FF/ES can be moved around if you have free space somewhere else, but if you have no empty slots left, you are out of luck.

You are losing 28 slots to endosteel and ferro fibrous (14 each). When you have only 28 slots left 'open' you can't use any more because those are comitted to the two upgrades you've purchased to save weight.
IMHO, it's very hard to use both of those at the same time, except for a few very specific builds. Decide which one saves you less weight and reverse that change...
